Since last alert?

Is this what you want?

X-notifier Options=> General=> When new messages arrive
[X] Show an alert window
[X] Only new since last alert
[X] Auto hide notification

Yes that what I [we] want.

I know that Tobwithu will NEVER make or write program alike this...

[X] Only new since last alert

If he wrote alike this...
Tobwithu will need to wait for other 6 to 12 months to collect all 30 language to translate this before update on X-notifier.

You will see at http ://www. babel zilla .org/
Version is WebMail Notifier 2.8.2a
LAST UPDATE IS November 22, 2011 (almost 2 years never touch it.)

I recall that Tobwithu already told me that he plan to make or programming on THIS (tobwithu.com) server instead of Babel Zilla' server, I do not know when Tobwithu will make the translate program on this server...

Also we (CFB and RpD) did talk about "KISS" =  Keep it simple and stable.

THEREFORE...

That why I ask for hidden options

extensions.xnotifier.showNotificationRecently;false [default]

Then he might make one and do it next version alike 3.3.5 or 3.3.6 instead of NEXT YEAR!

In reply to Yes that what I [we] want. by CFBancroft

Hmmm

Are hidden features in English?
I don't have a global software product, myself... but holding up features because of translation delays would not please me.
However, I might not be as gracious in providing all the mods people request. >;}
For example... how would X-Notifier track what was new since the last alert?????
Wouldn't that require that X-Notifier maintain it's own database of what was alerted and what not?
Seems like a lot of extra work to me.  I'd be less inclined to do that... it's a checker for new email, newness being determined by the email provider's 'count' of new email.
That's all I'm going to say... not needing/wanting to discuss it.

To write programming mostly ALLLL in English.

So "Hidden" a are written in English of course.

As you see
http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/8
That is for advance user who know how to do it and can read in English.
it been done since 4 years ago...

I do NOT know or reason WHY, that Tobwithu decide not doing business with Babelzilla.

Tobwithu will make it OWN tranlsate on THIS Tobwithu.com server in future.

That cause I said I would like to add HIDDEN features,
because I am "advance user",
YOU (RpD) also advance user TOO.

As you (RpD) said "X-Notifier maintain it's own database"
I am not familar with program but it is not hurt to ask or add features.
I wondering if it is possbile "cache database", when quit firefox all empty cache?

Go back the point:

[X] Only new since last alert
or
extensions.xnotifier.showNotificationRecently;false [default]

That is up to Tobwithu to write program.

Reason?

I sit all day to face with computer
and I choose to ignore several email,
I will deal with them "LATER" all mark is unread.

I do not want repeat bother me whatever other email host is NEW ones.

For example (setting 10 minutes as defaut to checking email)

First time peek alert will show ALL, because it "start it up"
Hotmail 2
Yahoo 3
AOL 4

Second time peek alert shown only Yahoo
Hotmail 2
Yahoo 4
AOL 4

Third time peek alert shown AOL because change value
Hotmail 2
Yahoo 0
AOL 1

Forth time peek alert shown Hotmail because change value and 2 new Yahoo
Hotmail 1
Yahoo 2
AOL 1
Fifth time peek alert shown Hotmail, Yahoo and AOL.
Hotmail 4
Yahoo 5
AOL 6

REPEAT ALL DAY LONG....

Ok

I understand your request (and I'm not a practicing programmer, but have done some)... I just don't see any easy programming logic to determine unread/recent-ness without a lot of data tracking programming. I think it's beyond the scope of simple 'email checker' "newmail" count reporting.  I don't think a simple value comparison is going to serve the purpose adequately.

For example, Hotmail 2, 2, 2, 1, 4 ... how do you know the first three twos are the same or six different emails? Users may go direct to webmail to read/maintain their emails... not through X-Notifier clicks.  So they could read two and two more show up before X-Notifier checks again.  On a practical basis, it's easier to just report "newmail" count from the email provider... instead of elaborate data-caching/tracking.  'Tis donation-ware, after all.

Thanks for back and forth make it clear up more.

As RpD said
"For example, Hotmail 2, 2, 2, 1, 4 ... how do you know the first three twos are the same or six different emails?"

How do I know?
based on...
X-notifier Options=> General=> [  ] Reset counter when opening message

*IF* Tobwithu can make it...

Why NOT, I give you other angle view...

[X] Reset ALERT when opening message (but keep counter number)

Tobwithu will not put that "[  ] Reset alert when opening message" in options

more alike in hidden options....

extensions.xnotifier.resetAlertNotification;false [default]

Listening not hearing

You do NOT have to explain to me that you've contributed many times... I've read the forums for a while now.

"Reset counter when opening message"... only works when you click the X-Notifier account/alert to get new email... only then will it reset the counter... to zero.  IF you simply go to www.hotmail.com (or outlook.com now) in a new tab outside of X-Notifier to read emails (which I suspect many users do)... it does not reset X-Notifier's counter... until X-Notifier checks again.
>>> IF the user types in www.hotmail.com in a new tab, then X-Notifier CANNOT know that the user has read two emails and possibly two more DIFFERENT new ones show up during the interval between X-Notifier checks.  It will simply show the same 2 count... and so, since the value doesn't change... your numeric comparison for 'recent' may not work accurately, because there would be two NEW/Different -more- 'recent emails.

I specifically mentioned about the 'Reset... ' option in last post.
Not everyone clicks to open via X-Notifier.

Maybe Tobwith has a way, but I'm done making suppositions about the logic.
Good luck.

Not everyone clicks to open via X-Notifier.

You are CORRECT!

I notice myself with two computer,
I am aware of that I did not clicks to open via X-Notifier. (such as iPad/iPhone already checked)

If Tobwithu make it, either method
[X] Only new since last alert
or
extensions.xnotifier.resetAlertNotification;false [default]

*IF* Tobwithu make it,
then I need to click to open via X-Notifier once and "mute" (visually quite) until next new e-mail.

@Tobwithu, after RpD and CFB talk (discuss/typing) back and forth...
do you (Tobwithu) understand what we discuss... and it is possbile or not?

Thank you, CFBancroft
