Log-in Verification code requested by X-notifier

I keep getting a box come up with a message that X-notifier is requesting a Log-in verification code for all of my Gmail accounts.   If that is the verification code GOOGLE request for finding or re-setting my passwords, why is X-notifier asking for it?

Apart from anything else I know my passwords but since X-notifier stopped working I could not even get into them directly as Google send emails to each other saying someone had been using my password so to change it.

BUT - Google ask for a cellphone number to send a verification code, and I do not have a cellphone.

So what is X-notifier doing now?   Apart from driving me crazy by these boxes coming up every two minutes?

It is coming up on Firefox, Chrome,  IE [I think that is now Microsoft Edgs?] well on that as well, also on Thunderbird.

Under where it says thag X-notifier  is requesting a Log-in Verification code it says "Host Gmail" but it is coming from X-Notifier and NOT Gmail.

When it comes up it will not go until I hit either the X in red or cancel, and it is doing it almost non-stop.

I have switched off my computer and router, left them for a few minutes before opening them again and that box STILL keeps appearing.

Is anyone else getting this?

Tobwithu has let everyone down.

I have the same problem. (gmail)

Got an xnotifier update just now and it's asking for the verification code for gmail. I was already signed in, and when I signed out and logged back in, I just got asked for my usual login location. Both accounts. I've never had this issue before with this addon. Had to disable the notifier due to popups about the verification.  Please fix.

I disabled X-notifier so that I could use my computer without being interrupted all the time - just enabled it now in the hope that someone would find a way to stop it.

Incidentally, it gives the name Byungwook Kang and not Tobwithu as the developer of  X-notifier.

Byungwook Kang seems to be the developers real name. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xnotifier/developers

To Be With You
TBWU . com?
... at that time somebody already taken domain name in few years ago, right now it is for sale,
So he choose clever website name Tobwithu.com

So... X-Notifier... To Be With You all the TIMES!

I also got the popup for gmail. It is googles stupid PIA security which are utterly hopeless.

If your IP address changes, gmail blocks access to your accounts claiming that someone has your passwords. If you update your browser, update X-Notifier or one of a number of unknown things like the planets aligning, there is a letter A in the day or anything else that google can find to annoy people, gmail blocks access to the accounts.

I am currently in the process of dumping gmail and finding a better email provider without all the damn problems because I am utterly sick of googles nonsense! It's far too time consuming keep trying to recover accounts all the time and this keeps happening  very very frequently. I still have not recovered all my accounts since earlier last month because of all the time and effort it requires.

Do yourself a favour and dump gmail like many people are now doing because it is not worth all the trouble.

Suggestions on decent email providers are welcome so everyone can move to a decent provider.

I did try GMX.com but I cannot get X-Notifier to work with it, the script from August last year does not seem to work and the update only works for GMX.net.

Dumping Gmail loses me important things saved since 2004 in various folders, none of which I can now access because I cannot access any of my Gmail accounts.

And I cannot change my passwords  to try to get at least some urgent Gmail addresses back because Google want a code that they send by SMS to my cellphone - BUT I do not own a cellphone.

Now to disable this damn X-notifier again.  I only enabled it to check if a solution had been found.

In another thread you said 2006, here it is 2004.

Why is it GMAIL or XN fault if you can't remember your passwords.  I don't give Google my cell phone and I have always been able to recover a locked account via e-mail......and I DO NOT know ALL my passwords by heart, but I have tools that can tell me my passwords.  As RpD said in the other thread, "As for Gmail account recovery, you can go here:  https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery"

I DO know my passwords - they are hand-written in my personal notebook NOT on the computer.  I also said that because all my Gmail accounts had been blocked because Google thought that someone else had been trying to get into my accounts, and as I am unable to access my Gmail accounts I had lost EVERYTHING in them since 2004.  If I previously mis-typed and put 2006 and not 2004 please excuse me.  I am a partial quadraplegic and I am liable to make typos - tell me you have never made a typ0?

Accounts Recovery for Gmail requires a four digit code that they will send by SMS to your cellphone.

I DO NOT OWN A CELLPHONE - I am severely disabled, wheelchair-bound and housebound, and have three separate landlines with a total of  three extentions in each room, so I do not need a cellphone.  Gottit?

Three of my Gmail accounts were for online orders from three different overseas companies.  I have managed to contact one of them to change my Gmail address to my ISP address - the others I cannot.  As both send emails when orders are mailed to me, I have no record of them.  In addition, they send emails when the refund guarantee is running out if goods are not delivered by a certain date, and if I do not request an extension they will pay the vendors with the money that I have sent to the companies.

No Gmail accounts, no emails, so I cannot ask for an extension and my money will be handed over.  Not a small amount either as that company deal with many vendors, so in total it is probably well over $1,000 because I have to purchase most things online.

NOW do you understand?

Have you thought of opening another G-Mail account and associating that G-Mail account with a new phone number from Google Voice that allows you to get SMS TXT messages just for the purpose of unlocking/recovering your accounts?

As I have said before, I can not get SMS TXT messages as I do not have a cellphone that is capable of accepting them.

Tr3b's picture

If you have get a phone number from Google Voice, G-Voice has the ability to send/receive SMS TXT messages

Tr3b's picture

Don't you have a friend that has a cell phone that wl allow this SMS txt message to come to their phone temporarily?

CFBancroft's picture

Second It.

I do not know what Google Voice is.

I do have a friend with a smart phone but it is not set for English and she will not let anyone near it [she has just had to buy a new one although I do not know why].

Hi Gertrude,

are you sure that Google doesn't offer another way to recover your account other than using an sms to a cellphone that you have never owned so you have never set in the various account recovery options?

Gianni - I spent nearly a week, including staying up all night a couple of times.  Google do not accept the "secret questions" options now, and as I gave other Gmail addresses as recovery options, those Gmail accounts were closed.

The only way is to type in the four-digit code they send by SMS to a cellphone and I will say this one more time - I do not own a cellphone capable of accepting SMS text messages.

jto's picture

Are you sure your accounts are blocked? When I got the "verification code" windows via X-notifier I closed each one and accessed all my gmail accounts the regular way through the Google links. However, you need to log onto the Google account first and set or reset the Account Recovery Options. (It's in an area called Sign-in & Security.) They'll allow you to use either another email address or a cellphone number. For at least your critical accounts you might want to use a non-gmail address such as your ISP email address. After I did that I never got that verification code requests again and X-notifier is working for me just fine.

You say I need to log onto the Google account first - do you mean Gmail account?  I cannot access ANY of my Gmail accounts through any way because Google say someone has been trying to log in with my passwords so they closed the accounts.  And I cannot get back into them without the damn number they will send by SMS.  I cannot even contact Google to tell them I do not have a smart phone and my ancient mobile does not have an SMS capability.

The critical accounts?  I cannot contact the two most important as they do not have any contact details.

Have you ever heard of DX [Deal Express] or AliExpress in China?   You order something, pay for it, they hold the money until their various vendors get confirmation that the items have arrived.  If goods are getting near the date you are supposed to receive them but have not, AliExpress send an email saying that you can request a 14 day extension.  If you do not then they release the money to the vendor.

But I did not receive an emails because the Gmail account I used for AliExpress is inaccessible to me now.  So the vendors are paid for something I have not received.   And I cannot even check what I had ordered and paid for because everything relating to orders and deliveries is in a special folder in that Gmail account.  Same with DX although most of the money I have lost is for goods from AliExpress.

Look guys, I am very grateful for everyone's help and suggestions, but I have tried EVERYTHING possible and there is nothing more that I can try.  I HAD hoped that it was because X-notifier was down - although I am still getting notification of any additions to this forum - which is all I am getting.  And I have to keep stopping typing when that damn verification code window comes up, everywhere.

So I have to disable X-notifier to carry on, only enabling it again to see if anyone has come up with a realistic solution that does not require the use of a code sent by SMS to a cellphone I do not have.

You are a partial quadraplegic, and
I am Deaf... both are in the SAME BOAT!

I know that I have problem with SMS!

BUT... Try this...

http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/3137

Once you go in...

PLEASE, PLEASE CREATE...

2-Step Verification and choose back up CODE!
Gmail will create total 10 code number ...
you print out and save some place for your future!
So that way you will NOT worry about lock it out!
or hassle with SMS!

Got IT?

I DID have verification.  Another email address for help in recovering my passwords if necessary, but I have all my passwords HAND WRITTEN IN A NOTEBOOK.  I also had a secret question/answer but that is not accepted any more, and as all my back-up email addresses have also been blocked by Google, one by one, it just leaves the four-digit code they send by SMS.

This is the message from Google

 ~ ~ ~ ~

HiSomeone just used your password to try to sign in to your Google Account [xxxxxxxxx]@gmail.com. Details:
Friday, February 12, 2016 5:57 PM

Google stopped this sign-in attempt, but you should review your recently used devices:

    ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Click on that and it take me through countless questions, when did I last use the email address, when did I first open it, blah blah blah - ending with the instruction to fill in the four digit code they would send me by SMS, asking for my cellphone number.

That message has come through on ALL recovery email addresses until they too, one after the other, ends up with those addresses going the same way.

Google has other things besides Gmail. Your Gmail ID actually signs you into an overall Google account from where you can access Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, etc. If you pull up the Google search page you'll see a sign-in button at the upper right corner. Signing in there gets you into your overall Google account. If your overall Google account is already disabled, try clicking the "Need help"? link on the account sign-in page and it should walk you through steps to take. (If you've already done this, never mind.)

These are things others have done to get their account unlocked:

-- posting at Google's Gmail help forum or viewing other questions about account lock-outs, here:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/gmail

(I've heard that Google volunteers monitor this forum and will sometimes give personal assistance. You have to use a google account to sign in and post a question. If you don't have a Gmail you can use right now you can set up a new one. You can get past the request for a mobile number by providing backup/verification email address. I'd recommend using a non-Gmail address such as your ISP email adress.)

-- calling Google's support number. According to GetHuman.com the number is here:
https://gethuman.com/phone-number/Google

(There could be a long wait time on hold.)

-- posting to Google's Facebook page, here:
https://www.facebook.com/Google/

I do not have an overall Google account.  I do not have a Gmail ID.  And no way am I holding on if I telephone because I cannot afford it.  I only get my disability pension - no old-age pension because you get one or the other.

And I do not do Facebook.

You say that to get into Google's Gmail help forum, which I did not know existed I need to set up another Gmail account.  Using my ISP address as a backup/verification?  I HAD used that for one Gmail address and all I got was the same message about someone trying to get into my account blah blah blah and the same questions blah blah blah, and the same "sending code by SMS" after filling in pages of questions.

How many more times?

But if other people are asking about account lock-outs,  it looks like no solution has yet been found.

whether you know it or not. Just to be clear about the reality of your situation, and as an FYI in case it throws light on things for you.

It is not possible to have a gmail account without having a general google account associated with it. You may not have used any of the other aspects of this account like Google Drive, Google+, Google Hangouts etc, but they are sitting there right underneath your Google account just as Gmail is, and this overall Google account has the same account name and password as your gmail login. Even if you set up your gmail account before any of this happened, Google has transformed your separate gmail account into a google account with all of the other google services attached to it. Gmail is only one of these services. That is the reality of your account, and no matter how much you protest that you think it is not, you are incorrect.

Google's recovery process changes frequently. One year you must have a security question, next year a backup email address, next year a phone to recieve SMS codes. They are NOT a user friendly company, but they certainly do have challenges to protect accounts from being hacked on a daily basis. My accounts are still intact WITHOUT any phone number being supplied. Once you put in a phone number you cannot remove it, only change it. I have managed to circumnavigate multiple security blocks to reaccess my account, but there is no way I could ever remember all the details. I can tell you this though, that different accounts are treated differently. I have many google accounts whose primary or only function is gmail. and have had some locked out while others were not. Some I could recover easily and others have insisted onthe SMS code. I DO own a phone, but refuse to give the number to Google. I have always managed to find another method of access. Just be aware that there are multiple entry points to their various security blocks to google accounts. If you search online you will find an alternative link to start you into a different security dialogue, then very carefully read everything on screen as every step can result in a different next step. I am still sure that there you can still get access without the SMS code.

Now you seem to have missed the point given about the google forum. It was suggested that you NOW set up a NEW google/gmail account for the explicit purposes of putting your dilemma to that forum. Or just search around til you find the answer. You DO NOT have to give a phone number to create a google account. If you say YOU do, then you are doing something in the creation process that is making that mandatory. Start again, and do each step slowly reading everything that might make that the case. I have done this many times and it is NOT mandatory.

I hate to put phone number(s)!
Because I can NOT hear!
I do NOT want to depend on somebody!

Anyway, I open new Gmail account over 5 years??
But I put "backup options"...
I did put my OTHER email address in December 2012.

Right now NO LONGER offer email address as backup options!
ONLY Phone (voice call) or SMS (Text message)!

Make me MAD!

In Japan offer three options for SIM Card...

2.99 dollars for Data plan
4.99 dollars for Data plan, and SMS.
9.99 Dollars for Data plan, SMS, and Phone number!

I choose 2.99 to save money!
I do NOT care for SMS and Phone!
My next SIM card, I might include SMS!
That mean I pay 12.00 dollars more for a year! WHY? Gmail make me to do it!

WHY? WHY? WHY?

Bad people!
Hacker, Terrorist, Cyber-terrorist, and Etc...

Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, and AOL are provide free emails! and no tracks who are you!

USA GOVERMENT ask them to track who people... HOW?

Starting to required to provide Phone or SMS! When you sign up with Free Email Provider...

Enable to track you when you join new email WITH phone and SMS,
because it tie t0 CREDIT CARD's name!

Complain to WHO? Bad People!

1.)  You must have a cell phone or some type of phone to verify your Gmail account

2.) Make sure there is no check to delete your browser history about:preferences#privacy  when

you go to close your browser, that right there will erase or delete passwords from Gmail.

3.) Make sure to "Sync" about:preferences#sync  your Firefox browser so it rememebers

passwords such  as  Gmail.

4.)  If you can't afford $9.99 a month for cell phone number

than come to the USA and get a  Safelink phone and go on Medicaid, Snap

you can have a free phone or get someone to send you a phone from the USA.

5.) I have 3 different Gmail accounts and no problem with not verying my accounts

with the same cell phone number.

6.)  I have no problem with the X-Notifier and been using it for 2 years now and i

refuse to accept all these complaints coming in about it  I do believe someone is

losing their passwords or being neglience about verifying their Gmail accounts.

7.)  You can always use WiFi from local Cafes in foreign countries and log onto your computer

have  Google Voice phone number verify your  Gmail account.

8.) These people from foreign countries having Gmail problems with passwords

you people travel to the USA all the time and If you can't buy a TracFone with

a  phone card  than get  a Sugar Momma or Sugar Daddy from the USA to buy it for you ..LOL

1.)  You must have a cell phone or some type of phone to verify your Gmail account

- - - I have a very old cell phone which does not do text.  [how many more times do I have to say this?]

I have TWO different telephone land lines and when I opened my Gmail accounts, Google did not ask for ANY telephone number.

2.) Make sure there is no check to delete your browser history about:preferences#privacy  when  you go to close your browser, that right there will erase or delete passwords from Gmail.

 - - - There is no check and no delete anything.  Oh, and I NEVER close my browser.  I NEVER even close my PC, it is just set on the Sleep function.

3.) Make sure to "Sync" about:preferences#sync  your Firefox browser so it rememebers passwords such  as  Gmail.

 - - - Sync what to where?  I ONLY have a PC.

4.)  If you can't afford $9.99 a month for cell phone number  than come to the USA and get a  Safelink phone and go on Medicaid, Snap you can have a free phone or get someone to send you a phone from the USA.

 - - - Go to the USA?  I live half way across the world and am unable even to travel to my nearest town from my village as no taxis are able to transport a heavy electric wheelchair.  And who is going to send me a phone from the USA?  I am not from America and I do not know anyone from America.  Unless, of course, you are offering - I don't think.

5.) I have 3 different Gmail accounts and no problem with not verying my accounts with the same cell phone number.

- - - congratulations.  What do you not understand?

6.)  I have no problem with the X-Notifier and been using it for 2 years now and i refuse to accept all these complaints coming in about it  I do believe someone is losing their passwords or being neglience about verifying their Gmail accounts.

 - - - I have NOT lost my passwords.  They are hand-written in a physical [not computer] notebook.  Google say that someone has been trying to get into my accounts therefore they, Google, have blanked them all off.

7.)  You can always use WiFi from local Cafes in foreign countries and log onto your computer have  Google Voice phone number verify your  Gmail account.

 - - -I have a PC, not a laptop.  There are no cafes in my tiny village and I am unable to even get to my nearest town.

8.) These people from foreign countries having Gmail problems with passwords you people travel to the USA all the time and If you can't buy a TracFone with a  phone card  than get  a Sugar Momma or Sugar Daddy from the USA to buy it for you ..LOL

 - - -Who are "you people"?  You sound like a redneck racist to me from that statement.  Calling Great Britain a "foreign country" is the most stupid thing ever.

As for "Sugar Momma" or "Sugar Daddy" - you have a disgusting mind.  I am in my mid 70's, severely disabled,  and even if I were young your idea about "Sugar" whatever disgusts me.

Is that what you teach your children?
