[FF] How to Disable Alert per account [Advanced configuration]

Forums
User Guide

For:  X-Notifier 3.4.5 and later

In the Firefox address bar, type... about:config
In the Search bar, type:  enabled
Look for extensions.xnotifier.accounts[yourHost#yourUsername].enabled:  2
Double-click that line.
Change the value to:  1
Click 'OK' and close the windows and restart Firefox.

That's it... that account will now be checked for new email but will not alert you with a pop-up.

(Short version wrote by RpD, Thank you)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(Long version wrote by CFB, with RpD's help correct the grammar.)

For:  X-Notifier 3.4.5 and later

Before going further, understand that you can enable/disable email checking completely, per account.
See X-Notifier "Options", Accounts tab, with the account list on the right side.

In the account list, on the left side of each account,
there is a checkbox to Enable (checkmark) or Disable (UNcheckmark) each account.
If UNcheckmarked, X-Notifier will -not- check for new email at all.
If checkmarked, X-Notifier will check for new email, and,
if there is any new email, X-Notifier will show a number on the X-Notifier envelope icon,
and also 'alert' you... by popping up a little window showing accounts with new email.

If you want to have X-Notifier check for new email,
but disable the alert pop-up for a particular account...
you can edit the configuration settings.

The normal value settings (controlled by the checkbox) are...

  • 0 : do not include the account in email checking (UNcheckmarked/disabled)
  • 2 : include the account in email checking and alert (checkmarked/enabled)

However, you can edit the X-Notifier configuration to use another setting...

  • 1 : include the account in email checking, but without an alert  (this will show as checkmarked)

---

To Edit the X-Notifier Settings:

In the 'location bar' (where you normally enter a www. address)...
1) Type ... about:config

An "about:config" configuration editor window opens...
2) In the Search bar, type:  enabled

Then look for the account on which you wish to disable alerting...
3) Look for extensions.xnotifier.accounts[yourHost#yourUsername].enabled: 0 or 2

Double-click that account .enabled line, and a value input box pops up...
4) Change the value to: 1

5) And click 'OK'

6) Close the windows, and restart Firefox.

---

If you again look at X-Notifier, "Options", Accounts tab...
your account list will show your account with a checkmark (enabled),
but now it is set only to check for new email but not alert you...
since you set the configuration to "1".

Warning:
If you click on the check box and UNcheckmark it, the setting reverts to 0 (disabled)...
and you will have to edit the configuration setting again if you want to set it to 1 (no alert).
Clicking it back again, to checkmark the box, will set it to 2 (enabled with alerts).

FYI...
Configuration settings:

  • 0 : do not check for new email (UNcheckmarked/account disabled)
  • 1 : check for new email but without alerts (checkmarked/enabled without alert)
  • 2 : check for new email and generate alerts (Checkmarked/account enabled with alerts)

So you will ENJOY Email notification without Alert notify!

How to request a custom script

Forums
User Guide

Requesting a custom script for checking your email provider with X-Notifier

1) Look through -all-  if any script that will work with your email. See URL...
http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/scripts.php

2) Note: see bottom 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, ...
Please click each, each, and each to make sure have any script for your email.

3) If do not have any script for your email.

4) You need create "Test Acccount" for example

xnotifier @ ___________ .com

5) You create any password, but do not tell us, only Tobwithu via email.

6) Send a test account to xndevel@gmail.com (Tobwithu)

7) Post in Script Request forum and say something alike
"I already send xnotifier @ ___________ .com to Tobwithu,
I hope he will write scripts for us, Thank  you."

Further reading from RpD! (He is good explain/written in details.)

You can find many custom scripts already developed for various email providers, on the X-Notifier Scripts pages... http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/scripts.php

- Look through -all- the Scripts pages (currently 8 of them) to see if there is any script already written that will work for your email provider. Some scripts serve several email domains (for example: hotmail.com, outlook.com, and live.com are all served by the hotmail script already included with X-Notifier).

- If you cannot find any script for your email, then you may request a custom script to be written by creating a 'test' account with your email provider, such as xnotifier@your-provider.com, and then sending that username and password via email to the X-Notifier developer at xndevel@gmail.com, so that the custom script may be written and tested.
...(If you cannot create a test account, then you may provide your own personal account and password... just change the password before/after your custom script has been created.)

- To prevent abuse, do NOT post the test account username/password in the X-Notifier forums, simply email the name of the email provider website, and the username and password of the test account, to xndevel@gmail.com, which is the email address of the X-Notifier developer (Tobwithu)

- You can then post a request/notification in the Script Request forum stating that you have already sent your test account to xndevel@gmail.com, and ask that a custom script be created.

Firefox 1.5 to 3.6.28 with Hotmail partily do NOT works.

Forums
User Guide

Dear X-notifier user,

In case, you notice that Hotmail do not count
and dimmed on Firefox 1.5 to 3.6.28.

Because Microsoft/Outlook/Hotmail look at Firefox "old version",
it will show up in mobile page.

That cause X-notifier will not able to check Hotmail to get info
and count how many new email.

But, Good News, that X-notifier will "click-able"
and open mobile page with Firefox in old version without show count number.

I am sorry that Microsoft/Outlook/Hotmail with old version of Firefox,
that CAUSE you problem, and do not blame on X-notifier.

As of today, Feb 25, 2014, I have not test on Firefox 4.x to ?.x,
I do not know 'which is which' it will open in mobile page or not.
If it open in mobile page, then you will know that X-notifier will not able to check/count.

FYI:
X-notifier will works from version Firefox 1.5 to 28, no problem,
BUT, it only problem with Hotmail's script with old version Firefox.

Thanks for reading and understanding,

CFBancroft

How to add other email providers/accounts using custom Scripts feature

Forums
User Guide

Scripts serving numerous accounts are written by admin and also contributed by others.
You can find these custom scripts for download here:

http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/scripts.php

( Please look for your host on first page, if cannot find please look on next page 2, 3, 4, 5 etc. )
Click on the Name heading to sort on hostname.
Now you can estimate on which page the script for your account can be found.
When the script is available:

  1. Download the script to some location on your computer
(I have a folder named 'My XN Scripts').
  2. Go to the Options page from the XN icon menu.
  3. Click the Scripts button and add the script from the folder where you downloaded it (click Ok)
  4. The host script is now available from the dropdown left from the Scripts button. Select it.
  5. Enter Username/Password and click the Add button, which adds the account to the rightside list.
  6. Optional for Chrome: Uncheck the Superfish option...
  7. Click the Save button for Chrome / OK button for Firefox

Explain between X-notifier's & Gmail's multiple login

Forums
User Guide

X-notifier's multiple login (used in XN-Firefox/SeaMonkey/Thunderbird).

  • login all accounts at once (FF/SM/TB checking all accounts at the same time.)
  • no limit to the number of accounts.

Gmail's multiple login (used in XN-Chrome/Safari/Opera).

  • login accounts one by one (CH/SF/OP not checking all accounts at the same time,
instead of having to check one at a time sequentially.)
  • up to 10 accounts

FYI: Regard to Thunderbird
You can get multiple notifications for Gmail on Thunderbird.
But you can open only one Gmail account at a time.

Reason behind (history)
X-Notifier's own multiple login method.
X-notifier was developed, before Gmail's multiple login is out.
X-notifier's method is faster and has no limit to the number of multiple login accounts.

X-notifier for Chrome/Safari/Opera uses Gmail's multiple login,
because Chrome/Safari/Opera do not have APIs for X-Notifier's own multiple login method.

Comments about Gmail
Gmail's multiple login could be implemented in XN-Firefox...
but it is inefficient and would require huge internal programming changes.
