X-Notifier 3.5.23 broken in Pale Moon

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Hello!
Today my X-Notifier 3.5.23 stopped signing into Gmail.
The reason I'm running such an old version is because I use Pale Moon (27.3 x86)

What is the newest version of X-Notifier that will work with Gmail and Pale Moon?

I love X-Notifier so much (I've tried so many others but XN really is the best!) and I'm sad that I might not be able to use it anymore :(
Thank you for any suggestions or advice!

Browser Profiles

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

For anyone not familiar with the concept:
Browser profiles aim to separate the clean browser installation from whatever user-chosen additional action. Profiles are parallel folders within the hidden browser installation folder. You can simply switch between them. Your (literary named) default profile folder is not affected. You can even start your fresh 'test' profile to test X-notifier, add all your regular stuff and decide to ditch (delete) your previous default profile in order to rename the 'test' profile to 'default'.

In the Run dialog box, type in (or use copy/paste to ensure correct ASCII code dash - ) :
firefox.exe -P
Note: You can use -P, -p or -ProfileManager (any of them should work).

XN4 and XN-Neo behaviour change in Gmail: Concerns about privacy and account handling

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

I want to ask about a behaviour lost in the new email checkers (XN4 and XN-Neo), what i think some people doesn't notice and maybe some could be concerned. Maybe is for the new Firefox limitations or Google changes, but maybe the developer can clarify things or do something (or maybe not).

In my case, i have mainly 4 Gmail Accounts, 3 normal Google accounts (Personal, for work, and another one shared with others people) and a Google Apps account (For work, separated from the another one). In the beginning, i have a lot of problems because i don't want to be logged in at the wrong account when i'm using internet in some ways, for example, sometimes i realized that i was in Youtube and i was logged in my work account, making the history playback in that account, because the mail checker i'm using at that time is at that moment in that account or it keeped the cookie and it wasn't logged out after the check. I fixed that then using various browser to use different group of accounts, normally 2 or 3, and some accounts were sending notifications emails when they had new emails automatically.

With the newers Firefox and XN3 i fixed that, because XN permanetly keep my personal account logged as default, and the other ones are opened in a background tab keeping the things not mixed and all in the same browser. That's perfect. Besides, i learn about the "delegated" accounts in gmail, making inside Gmail some accounts accesible through others ones in one way only, whats is cool.

But now, with all of these changes in Gmail, Firefox and XN4/NEO, seems it's more difficult to keep them separated. Looking that, you NEED to have logged in to all your accounts at the same time and in the same cookie enviroment to have access to them and use the mail checkers. i used XN4, XN-NEO and Gmail Notifier too, which is how those email checkers look for the different accounts, with the login cookies stored in the browser (i think) instead of log in to check every time separatedly or having the cookies separated. If you are using one of these email checkers and have multiple gmail accounts, on Gmail (or in the main Google page) if you click on your avatar on the right upper corner, you can see all the accounts you are logged at the time, and although is something based in the cookies and it's only affected by the working browser, this is making doubts about my privacy between accounts, Google is showing direct access and info for accounts i don't want to be visible directly from its webpages, and the delegated gmail thing is a bit more useless (in my main computer, completely useless with this) when all the other accounts are there (In the avatar in gmail is where you can change between delegated accounts too). All that thing still don't happens in X-Notifier 3, tested today, because seems it stills doing the work of logins and cookies separatedly.

Thats why, in my case, if it should be possible to keep the cookies in separated "containers" inside the browser, although you need to do in some way a manual login in the beginning, to keep the checking at least, it should be ok. My main thing is to keep everything separated, and that's why X-Notifier 4, X-Notifier NEO and Gmail Notifier aren't doing the job for me. It seems i'm going to return to have a lot of browsers. I don't know why are making so hard (Gmail, Firefox, etc.) to make access to your account(s) for see only if you have new email, only a number, without anything more fancy, that's all.

4.0.3 impressions firefox

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

First of all i want to thank the developer for his several hours to create/test this great plugin which made our lives easier by checking several acounts through the browsers.

I dont know if i missed something that i should have done or if anyone else has these problems but thats what i faced. I am not a coder so i dont understand what happens below deck but thats how  see it on my end.

After several hours testing and install/uninstall i have decided to revert back to 3.5.23 until goes fully dead.Im sorry but i dont like version 4. Maybe will try again future builds.

1)Design is not very good.I prefer version3 design. Also right click doenst work. only left click although on chrome there is some action with right click.

2)Privacy settings must be disabled which im not in favour. I dont want any history etc to be remembered.

3) Master password is not asked when opening firefox as before.

4) Gmail works..sometimes. I have 6 accounts which  4 logged in correctly. Pressing the other 2 opens randomly any of the rest logged in

5) Yahoo & hotmail accounts i have 2 of each but only 1 is available to open. the second one you need to click it once to be highlighted although will open the other one and then click again the second one to open correctly.

thank you

NEW X-Notifier... UPDATED to 4.0.3... Again SUPPORTS GMAIL (with fix for Yahoo, Hotmail 2-step)

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

The developer found a way around the problem with the "new" Gmail login and updated X-Notifier to 4.0.3 (also fixing some problem with Yahoo and Hotmail 2-step).

HOWEVER, he still recommends X-Notifier NEO (over the new 4.03) ...for Gmail.

xnotifier stopped working with new gmail/google login

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Just noticed that xnotifier doesn't log in automatically anymore.  Google/gmail seems to have a new login page.  XN won't log in automatically, I get the "mail not checked" alert in red.  When I click on it, instead of logging my in automatically as it usually does, it takes me to a Google sign in page.  The login page is different/new.  (This page describes the change they made: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/7338427?visit_id=0-636294522…)

From there it goes to like a google dashboard or something about their services, my security, blah blah didn't read it.

So... .Just a fyi, and I hope this can be fixed in an update!

Thanks-

-J

Oh- Firefox 45.1.0, 'gmail' host, enable autologin is checked (XN worked fine for ages, I didn't make any changes to it or browser, stopped working today or yesterday.)

Helping and not yelling

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

I really don't understand.

I'm one what wanted to keep 3.5.23 until i see 4.0.x more stable or the old one not working at all, i can admit. Yes, i don't like 4.0.x when i see it, but i understand the main problem is the Firefox limitations of the new extension API, a new beginning for the extension, and the beginning are always difficult. But at the same time i see all those hate in Firefox Addons comments, and here too, yelling about what crap is 4.0.x, what the hell are you doing developer, and somethings like that... people who seems don't understand whats happening and don't want to read.

Now, Gmail changes things and 3.5.23 is beginning to fail to work. And when i want to test the last 4.0.x, i see the last one is 4.0.2, from November 2016, more than six months ago, what is a long long time from a new beginning and for an extension from this kind. And i come here and see that, maybe, the developer has give up and it's not here anymore. Who can blame him: First, Firefox changes things (what is understandable, until some point) and break your work from years, and you try to do again your work with the new API, all the people is yelling you about the new extension is crap, what are you doing that, and make a fix urgently. Meanwhile, he knows what are the problems, he wants all the missing things in the new version, and wants to figure out what he can do, but maybe his life is not the same when he do the old extension, maybe then he didn't have a full job, and now maybe have a full job and family, and he can't work at the same level than then for these reason or anothers. And doing all of this for free.

I hope this is not the case, and the developer can work more in the new XN. XN4 needs a bit of work, now i test it a bit and i see it stills have issues with multiple gmails handling, at least, but you can see it has the core XN behaviour right there, and only needs a bit of work on that and after this go further. I will help to make XN4 better between my possibilities, and i wish i could donating to help the developer, but i'm totally broke, so i hope someone else can help in that way too. Starting with the ideas, maybe the developer can do a 5.3.24 (if it's a quick-easy fix for gmail) and make an 4.0.3 with the ability to have both installed at the same time, to make easier to test the new one without losing the ability to check the mails. Or maybe is some other extension or hack to do this, i check yesterday but i didn't find anything. Maybe the developer doesn't want, or can, make this extension anymore, but can release the source code for XN4 for someone of the knowledge can resume the work since he does. And i hope Firefox open, at least a little bit, its new API extension to make easier the lives of the developers, and make better their extensions.

Anyway, you, developer, if you give up or not, i want to say thanks for your work, and you need to be proud because i think you do this years one of the best, if not the best, mail checker for firefox for years. I'm sure that sentence is very near to the truth.

For all the people, you can keep yelling, or maybe can helping. It's your choice.

PD.: English is not my main language, sorry if i made some mistakes writing this.

email accounts on toolbar (better explaination in thread)

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Long story short, lve had to update to the latest version due to my older stable becoming very buggy (and by older version l mean the older style version which l stuck with for one pure reason.

that being that it included a toolbar which listed all my accounts, these accounts l put at the bottom right of my toolbar so l could see each account alias and if l had an email in either of the account it was set to check. lve found new versions lack this, all l see is a red blob which means l'll likely have to move the icon and clutter the top of my browser.. suffice to say l wish l could drag each individual account back to where l used to have them rather than just one icon l have to click on just to see which account has the email.

Gmail grayed out in 3.5.23

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Since yesterday Gmail has been grayed out in 3.5.23. You can click Gmail and it takes you to Google/My Account and has you logged in. From there I can select the Google apps icon at the top and check my mail but notifier isn't actually showing new mail nor does clicking Gmail in notifier actually take you to the inbox anymore. I've removed xnotifier and reinstalled v 3.5.23 for it to have the same exact issue.

Well Done and Thanks

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

I just wanted to say Thanks to the author of this addon.

It's been favourite of mine for years, and generally works well. Sure, there's been times it wouldn't login to a particular account, or service BUT, the author always responds quickly with a solution.

I really appreciate the addon, and the dedicated response from tobewithu for this.

Cheers - Trevor
