X Notifier and Firefox 45.0.1 bug.

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

I was having a few issues that made me upgrade my x notifier and as a user of this product for a very very long time . I am wondering if there will be a bug fix as i read reviews when i was making one there and noticed on reading I am not the only one with issues with the latest firefox...My notifier no longer at all.... will auto check on timer at all.. only if i manually  click ' check now' will it bother to check for me ..

It has never been like this sometimes yes faulters over the years but this is a first where it simply refuses to work at all .. i have tried the last version again before is went odd a week ago and i upgraded my firefox but seems this is a problem and other bugs for users of this new version of firefox.. Is this bug got a work around ? or will there be a fix applied or worked out for it.. I have not done anything new to this computer than what was in it the week before i upgraded.. and day or night never ever works on timer . i have tried clean reinstalls and many things..

are there any answers out there or coming up for fixes? as it renders it fairly not useful now not being ' notified' when you get mail unless you keep checking all the time so makes it fairly redundant. I have been a good recomender and user of this but this is making it of not use.. any hints or help would be appreciated if this bug is just with this last version as some other bugs mentioned in the reviews.. as i seriously do not know for once what to do about this at all and nothing i have tried fixes is as it usualy would... Thank you .

How I made x-notifier work for me

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Firstly, I should thank the author for this wonderful extension. It's hard work, and with firefox being as customizable as it is, something is bound to break only too often. Sometimes you can search and find how to troubleshoot, sometimes you just give up. That being said, I would like to share what I've learnt from experience about gmail, outlook and yahoo.

1. x-notifier works sessions and cookies, ie creates sessions with saved passwords and also saves the cookies for quick checks.

2. app passwords do not work with x-notifier, you have to use normal passwords, if you're lucky(!) it'll ask for your 2-factor-authentication password once, and if you're still lucky, never again. if not, it'll ask for it whenever the browser restarts (4 gmail accounts, all with 2FA, only 1 has this behaviour)

3. disabling 2FA, having x-notifier check for email and succeed, enabling 2FA again will probably solve any 2FA related misconfiguration, only until some seemingly unrelated setting is changed, then even if the change in settings is reversed, x-notifier can't solve it on its own, you have to go through the disable 2FA, check email, enable 2FA cycle one more time.

4. firefox should remember history, or at least accept cookies until they expire.

5. troubleshooting algorithms start with adding the extension and then the problem account to a new profile, and works its way through if it works with that profile. if it doesn't, there's no info about that. the thing is, if it doesn't work with a new profile, it's probably related to the security settings of the account itself, which x-notifer can do nothing about.

Issue for Gmail

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Gmail has warned me that someone took my password recent 4 months. However, when I checked it, it was me. Other email providers are ok (Hotmail and Yahoo), but only Gmail has pushed me to change my password. Therefore, I had to change my password constantly and it is pretty stressful.

I installed other email add-ons and they are ok. The Gmail issue with X-notifier has stopped. Thus, I think that X-notifier has a problem with Gmail.

Please check it and fix it.

Thanks for great add-on.

X-NOTIFIER NOT WORK WITH FIREFOX MASTER PASSWORD. HOW FIX?

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Hi guys. have x-notifier setup and works fine most all the time. But saw my logins & password on the Firefox Login& password page so tried a Fx Mater password to prevent prying eyes. But then x-notifier stopped working.

Any body know of a good solution?

Thanks, Jim

Suspending X-notifier

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Could I make a suggestion?

Google has recently become more aggressive in alerting and sometimes blocking log-in attempts that it thinks are suspicious.  Sometimes G-mail demands that I change passwords, and at the minimum it sends messages to my account and the backup email address for that account.

The biggest part of the problem is that X-notifier runs when I'm online using a VPN and presenting a "suspicious" IP address. I can disable your app from the right-click menu, but I would either have to stop checking mail when the browser opens or remember to open the browser first before firing up the VPN.

Would it be possible for the app to check to see if a VPN or proxy is running when it first starts (and before it checks mail) and let me opt to shut off the mail checks if it is? If that VPN/proxy info is readily available, the option would be a useful addition to a very good app.

Thanks.

1&1 - Updated Script needed?

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Hello,

I've used X-Notifier for a while now -- which is quite good. However ...

In the past, my 1&1 mailbox was supported by X-Notifier. I would see that new mail had arrived, and -- when I clicked the link, I would be brought to my mailbox.

Recently, however, 1&1 changed (I believe) -- so, now, when I see new mail has arrived, clicking the link brings me to a login page (despite the fact that my login information is already in X-Notifier). I suspect the existing script needs to be updated to fully bypass the login screen and open the mailbox itself?

Thanks so much!

X-notifier broken on Firefox 48 because ioService.newChannelFromURI was removed

Forums
X-notifier 3.x for Firefox (deprecated)

Bug 1254752 removed deprecated functions from nsIIoservice.

It seems X-notifier uses ioService.newChannelFromURI, so now Handler.js:198 throws

gmail 0 TypeError: ioService.newChannelFromURI is not a function
hotmail 0 TypeError: ioService.newChannelFromURI is not a function
