X-notifier for Firefox continiously requests code every browser usage

I run a vpn service off and on and every time I use my browser constantly asks me to enter code. There should be a workable solution to enter code and remember. I like x-notifier but this is a true pain in the ass to enter codes every browser use. Please fix.

I think he mean Google Authenticator Code. It happen a lot with my home XP machine (Firefox) and work Chrome (Win7) if there is any relation. I could understand people's frustration and I hope the auther do too. I use this for many year and I quite like it, still it has it quirk and it is annoying.

I think entering the verification code should be entered once and then remembered by X-notifier.

Using ver. 3.3.12 on Win7 x64 through VPN.

I tried setting this up several months ago to work with 2-step verifications, and also experienced the same issues. It happened for both gmail and hotmail accounts (the only account types I tested). I tried some various suggestions previously posted around concerning clearing cache, cookies, etc., but it didn't seem to help me. At least once a day, and often it was more like several times a day (up to multiple times an hour), it would ask me to resubmit the codes (after having successfully checked the accounts for the duration leading up to that). Hence, I had to disable the 2-step verification on all accounts because I valued to automated checking over the security. In the future, I would like to have both, and if another plugin becomes available that works, I would likely switch to it.

I'd guess there's something unusual for those with repeated prompts.
Perhaps other google activity going on.
One could try making an account available to the admin for testing.
(And perhaps log files, and work with him via xndevel@gmail.com)
This would not, however, duplicate the environment on your machines/activities.
Just a thought.

not google-specific

Well, I did try again today after posting earlier. I set up my hotmail account for 2-step verification, and it worked for several hours. Just before posting this, xnotifier requested my code again. Hence, this issue is not google-specific, and seems to be related to xnotifier itself. Yes, it could have something to do with my specific computer, but the fact that this affects other users makes it seems like something is going on that may be worth fixing in a future update. I am open to suggestions.

troubleshoot

Just guesstimating to help troubleshoot, but...
Do you have security or cleaning software running in the background? preventing/cleaning code retention?

Otherwise, I'd suggest working with Tobwithu/admin at xndevel@gmail.com, letting him test your account, if possible.

Technically, I don't think it's 'xnotifier' that is doing the requesting... although perhaps if xnotifer settings are getting 'cleaned' or 'forgotten', maybe that could cause hotmail/gmail to request authenticode again. Perhaps X-Notifier needs a tweak/fix somehow, but I doubt it's actually requesting codes; some activity, x-notifier or other source, may cause code renewal.

I have the same problem

I have the same problem everytime I login to several accounts from a different IP address.

I do not have 2-step authentication enabled on any of my accounts. I am not sure what to do with this verification prompt, except hitting cancel. After that I will be locked out, and must reset password.

I'm having the same issue, and I also don't have 2-step authentication enabled. At work or university, I will use my phone as a hotspot and connect my laptop. As soon as I do that, the verification notices start popping up. After manually logging in to each greyed account, I have to reset my password and update in my phone AND in xnotifier. I don't want my information going out on the school or public wifi, and I shouldn't have to reset my dang password each time I connect to my phone's hotspot. This is absolutely maddening!

Solution

Firefox should automatically trim the cache for you when it nears fullness. This wouldn't affect your cookies.

One possibility is that cookies are being cleared or expired out at certain intervals by an add-on or by external software.

Another possibility is that there is some kind of conflict or corruption with your cookies. You can delete all the cookies for a particular site (e.g., Google) using the Page Info dialog. While viewing a page on the site, try either:

right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

Alt+t (open the classic Tools menu) > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

Hopefully after your next login any conflict or corruption will be resolved.

I also notice you have an extension that presumably logs into to Gmail on your behalf. As a test, try disabling X-notifier here:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Usually a link will appear above a disabled extension to restart Firefox. If so, that is necessary for the change to take effect.

I had this problem but fixxed it by logging into google directly at wwww.google.com then clicked on my account and then add account and then added my alternate accounts.

They ask you to change passwords once you set the new password and save it you need to update the password in X-Notifier and then it works without the popup notification.
