is x-notifyer 4 even usable? with the loss of account information and all the bugs, I am thinking it was kinda irrisponsiable to release 4 in its current state.
No account information was lost. v3.x of the plugin was based on the legacy plugin architecture (XUL/XPCOM) which Mozilla is getting rid of. v4 is based on the new plugin architecture (WebExtension API). The new plugin architecture does not have access to data stored from the older.
After you restart FireFox it should work just as before with all of your old Account information in place. Be sure to export this and keep your export file somewhere safe.
Regarding bugs, etc. At some point we'll need to make the jump to the new architecture, which while great in many ways, is also more limiting that previous (hence the bugs and change in way things are done with notifier). If we (the users) don't start testing and reporting issues they can not be fixed.

The developer warned us of this issue and reminded us to export our settings from v3 before upgrading to v4.
If you did not, not to worry there is still time till FireFox hits v57 (end of 2017). You can install the 3.5.23 version of the plugin from here:
