IMAP stopped working

This morning, my IMAP account (imap.1and1.com) stopped working with X-notifier. The account is greyed out and not being checked.

I've deleted the account; re-added it and restarted Firefox; nothing seems to be making a difference with it.

What steps should I be taking next?

Please check if you can access your account correctly with other IMAP account.

Right-click the X-Notifier icon, then in the popup account list, click the account, which should open in a new tab (hopefully auto-logging in).  This is to check for any prompts for new info, or whatever that your provider may have inserted into the login process.
Also, login manually... just open a new tab yourself, and go to the mail login page to login.  Again, to check if there is any prompt in the login process.  They interfere with mail checking.

You can use '1&1' script for 1and1.com instead of IMAP script.

Download '1&1' script from http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/scripts.php and install it.

Select '1&1' from the list and enter your account information.
Set server to 'https://email.1and1.com/'
(If you leave it as blank, 'https://email.1und1.de' is used.)

Thanks all - tobwithu, as we discussed via email, that script worked. I'm not sure what changed from the past three years to yesterday; but I'm happy we got it worked out!

Well - this worked for about two years ...

Today, it stopped working again :( -- I was trying to set the link to which the account would open to the new email page for 1&1 -- but, now, t's simply greyed out again, and if I hover over it, it says the account isn't being checked (in red) .....

Again - if I right-click and select the account, it takes me right to the email page ... it just won't check and notify me :(

Possible alternative...

I have a few accounts that I have set up with other means of access (disabled)... so if my primary means quits for some reason, I can disable it and enable the other access method.  So...

I see 1&1 also supports POP3 access... you might try that.

I assume when you say it takes you right to the email page... that that means it takes you into your inbox, automatically logged in.
Have you tried clearing cache and cookies?

Tobwithu may need an account to test the script if it needs updated.

Thanks for the idea ..

Switching to pop3 changes nothing -- still red and unchecked :(

I've tried imap, the 1&1 script and pop3 -- none will check that account

Forget it ...

And, just now, it started working again.

Blech. Computers should at least be consistent in their errors!
