Problems with GMail: wrong count of mails

Hello,

first of all: thanks for that great plugin!

I am using X-notifier 3.4.2 with Firefox 30 and there I am having a strange behavior:

I created the checker for a gmail-account, setting the option "check only inbox" to false. When checking mails I get 8 new mails but there aren't any. Neither in inbox nor in any label or folder. When I set the option to true, I get 0 new mails even if there is one new mail in my inbox.

I tried to toggle the "also spam" and "show label" settings, but I am still getting the same result.

Any idea what I am doing wrong there ?

Thanks in advance!

You can check or uncheck the option for "Notifiy Inbox Only".  If this option is -checked-, then X-Notifier should notify you of only 'new' emails in the Inbox folder.  IF you have created subfolders within Inbox, I believe new mails in the subfolders will be counted (not sure though).IF you have emails in your Inbox that you -have- 'read'... they will not be counted, as they will have been marked 'read' and will no longer be "new" (UNread)... which is what X-Notifier gets the count for... 'new' (unread) emails.  (As far as I know.)

If the account is not working correctly, I would delete it, clear cache/cookies, restart browser, recreate account.
There are just a few people having problems with yahoo and hotmail/outlook... but there are others (such as myself) that are not having any problems with any accounts (and I have a lot (23), yahoo, gmail, hotmail, outlook, etc).  A half dozen problems out of literally -thousands- of users... doesn't tend to indicate a problem with X-Notifier (but it's not impossible).  If you use 2-step verification or whatever, being more complex...it can be more subject to problems.

I didn't assume that there is a problem with x-notifier. That was why I asked, what I am doing wrong.

In fact I tried your suggestions without any success at first. Then I deleted all my accounts from x-notifier and put in a totally empty one. I got 5126 new messages. Wow!... That can't be true. So I investigated the account, checking inbox: empty. Checking sent and drafts: empty. Labels: empty

But then I recognized some new categories in gmail, hidden in a menu below my labels, called promotion etc. There I found some unread mails which were counted by x-notifier. I wasn't really aware about that gmail-"feature".

A check with "is:unread" showed also some well hidden mails and so I was able to clean up the account.

Now, all is fine.
