entered gmail account, entered one-time app pw, etc. - does not access gmail

I am baffled. I entered all my info in preferences.

Gmail account shows up in windows and pop ups and sidebar.

Mail check cycles as it should, but it never finds any mail and tool tip over status bar icon says GMAIL not checked.

I'm glad I didn't pay anything for this.

Probably at least a quarter million users and...

...I don't know, but perhaps this is relevant: http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/986

Thoose of you who have a two step verifying process, i.e a second pass usually comprised of your mobile- or landline telephone number will experience problems with x-notifier. As far as I know there is no way to circumvent this except for skippning the second pass.

You can use two step verification with X-notifier.You should use normal password.

I don't have any problem with x-notifier and reading gmail, hotmail and yahoo mail. The only problem I have is that the notifier doesn´t get greyed out after having read the mail.

There is bold, black, and gray... in the 'pop-up' account list (right-click mouse pointer over X-Notifier envelope icon).

Bold is unread emails, black is 'situation normal' (checking) but no new email, and gray is account 'not checked'.

IF, in X-Notifier "Options", 'General' tab... you have checked "Reset counter when opening messages" (via clicking the X-Notifier envelope icon or clicking the account in the X-N pop-up  list), then the account should go back to simply black (not bold, not gray) when you've read your new email(s).  Otherwise, it won't change until the next email check... if you've read all emails in the meantime.

I checked everything mentioned on this page. I don't have any fancy email apps. I just use XN only. XN accesses all my other email accts. (Hotmail etc.) with no problems. But not GMAIL. I have GMAIL set to normal and NO two-step or fancy security features set. I deleted and re-entered my GMAIL info in the XN  preferences but still no joy. I have also downloaded the latest version of XN. Status bar always indicates GMAIL NOT CHECKED.  I have been locked out for more than a week now. Please help.

Did you perform all steps of admin's FAQ post?

http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/4

Yoko's picture

Yes jeroen, as much as I could. I don't know what a Firefox pasword manager is? I don't let Firefox or anything else know what my passwords are (basic security). As for sending in the log file I wouldn't do that either as it also contains pertinent info about me that I don't feel comfortable spreading around. XN works fine for all other accounts - why not GMAIL?  Thanks for replying to me so quickly!

Why don't you make new profile.

and create new Gmail account and with your favor user name (not make it up).

as your second Gmail account.

Because it all EMPTY.

If it is NOT working.

Then use jeroen's suggest, then you will not worry about "security" because it ONLY ONE account.

and send LOG to tech support and then update your password. THEN...

you choose back your old profile and wait for tobwithu to update or fix or explain to you what to do.

Then you fix with your old profile.

IF NEW PROFILE with NEW GMAIL account is WORKING, then it must be problem with caches or other bugs??? such as conflict addon? who know... I can't tell you exact what wrong, you need to figure it out...

Thanks, CFBancroft

Thanks CFB. Good Idea. I will try that.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-f...

As I explain that is for Firefox, but there is NO new profile for Safari.

What you have to do is ... switching to toggle between accounts.

You can look into dummies explain how to add user account for Mac.

http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/adding-a-new-user-account-in-mac-o...

After that, you test with new Gmail account as I explain above...

IF NOT WORKING...

Then you do step by step

Thanks to jeroen and CFB for your extensive help and explicit directions which I have followed with no success. I have sent my log file in to Admin. Just waiting to see what comes of that. Thanks.

Yoko

14 hrs later... Decided to check if anymore updates - and there was one.

Downloaded it and all works fine now - thanks to whoever fixed it, great.
