What version of X-Notifier do you have now? I assume it's X-Notifier 4.x ...which is a work in progress, because FF 50+ is a work in progress. (Firefox 50+ is changing... such that X-Notifier 4.x can no longer support POP3/IMAP or custom scripts.) Firefox 49.x and X-Notifier 3.5.23 is the most stable and feature-rich combination.
My X-notifier lost all accounts yesterday w/o updating Firefox to 50.0.1. It's still at 50.0.
When I opened Firefox, X-notifier updated itself and dumped all accounts. I haven't been able to get it reinstalled functionally until finding this thread. I installed X-N 3.5.23, as suggested by RpD above and it's working so far as if nothing ever happened.
Default updates are now turned off for this extension.
The FF 50+ changes are forcing X-Notifier to massively change... no longer supporting POP3/IMAP or custom scripts. For the time being, it looks like X-N 3.x is still working in FF 50+, but that is supposed to change... X-Notifier 4.02 is working now (without pop/imap/custom), but you'll have to either Export your accounts (backup) from within X-N 3.x, then Import that backup into 4.0.2 ...or... just redefine your accounts in 4.0.2. Some of us have 4.02 working with FF 50.0.1 just fine.
Open Firefox this morning and received a message that XMail had been automatically updated. However, NONE of the accounts were there after the upgrade!!!

(Exporting your accounts is a good thing to have done) but first try installing the old version of X-Notifier... 3.5.23 is working with most versions of FF.
You can get X-N 3.5.23 here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/xnotifier/versions/
