Gmail broken for months now?

For months now, X-notifier has not been able to check my Gmail account. It sits "not checked" in the status. I've already walked through the troubleshooting steps, including removing and adding it again, and trying in a new browser profile. I've also looked at the debugging information, which doesn't seem to have anything useful. Any tips for fixing this?

Hi... I have three gmail accounts working fine with FF 45.x and now 46.

I'm using 3.5.19 X-Notifier.

In the past, when some of my accounts would have trouble, I would delete their definition from X-Notifier, restart FF, and redefine the accounts... which sometimes fixes things.

Are you using 2-step authentication? If so, see this... http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/3166

Hi RpD,

I am using 2 factor authentication. I just tried your suggestion of removing the definition, restarting Firefox, then adding it again. I got the prompt for my code, I entered it, and GMail still shows at not checked. I looked at the link, and I'm not really sure what I'm supposed to do with it besides disabling 2FA, which I really do not want to do.

Either way it seems like X-Notifier should be able to tell us what's wrong... Is the developer still working on it?

Disable/check/re-enable supposedly fixes it.

3. disabling 2FA, having x-notifier check for email and succeed, enabling 2FA again will probably solve any 2FA related misconfiguration, only until some seemingly unrelated setting is changed, then even if the change in settings is reversed, x-notifier can't solve it on its own, you have to go through the disable 2FA, check email, enable 2FA cycle one more time.

Developer still lives.
Gmail is not trivial.
Maybe Jeroen will comment.

Is Jeroen the developer? It seems pretty clear to me that we're dealing with a bug, I'd like to help him fix it so this doesn't affect other users in the future.

Jeroen is not the developer.  He's a skilled user... we try to help other users in forum.
Tobwithu is the developer, at xndevel@gmail.com

So, I take it you have tried step #3?
You could forward that whole commentary to xndevel@gmail, if you want, since it goes into lengthy detail.

No, I haven't done step 3. Disabling two factor authentication is where I'm drawing the line; if X-Notifier can't work until 2FA is disabled, then something really needs to be changed.

It looks like I did send an email to xndevel@gmail.com back in December of last year, obviously I never got a response... Oh well, second time's the charm I guess.

Man this guy is a developer working to support himself but provides this plugin for free for people like us who have little talent.   Instead of "drawing the line" and making the rules find something better but it's not gonna happen. The two smart guys here helping us work for free too.
Gmail has a lot of options including readig all your mail by logging into one account is that too much trouble for you?
