a new mail icon on task bar
Forums:
Hi, lve recently moved from another addon which broke when l finally updated firefox to the latest version.
however theres one thing l miss from that addon, namely when l received an email the gmail icon would change to have blue on the envelope instead of the normal red one, granted l can see the number of new emails but it would also be interesting to have a different colour icon so l can look at a glance which account has new mail without having to squint to see a small number to see if an email arrived.

Firefox?
Are you talking about the Firefox version? Are you looking at the X-Notifier toolbar, sidebar, or X-Notifier window?
If you haven't turned off text in the toolbar... then all three options: toolbar, sidebar, and window ...will show the account names bolded up when there's new email, besides a number. So... where is the icon you want to turn color?

Statusbar?
Since you were talking about your bottom taskbar in your other post, my guess would be you mean Firefox's old Statusbar...
The Toolbar enveloppe icon turns orange on receiving message(s). Your request means you want a specific color per account (You want blue for Gmail). When receiving messages from different accounts it could turn back to the default orange or perhaps a gradient of the receiving account colors, which could be set per account by the user in about:config.
The developer of this addon might grant your request when it is feasible and supported by enough users. Also consider this is not the developer's main job, but a side activity.
Me personally, I think your request is not a bad idea.

back when l used a similar l had the icons down here (which l have managed to do this time by draging the email addresses from the toolbar down there)
but l miss the blue envelope icon when l have mail, as you know when there isnt mail the icon is transparrent, personally ld prefer the icon to look like it does when you receive email, but change to a different colour like a blue gmail envelope icon for example to make it easier to determine when email arrives at a glance rather than looking for the number.

ColorBlind!
I rather to see numbers instead of colors. (I do not mind "dimmed" the icons that mean no mail.)
10% ColorBlind in the world!
That why I told Tobwithu please to use number instead of color code.
That why Tobwithu stick with numbers only.
Thanks reading and understanding, CFBancroft

Visual indication
I can't get on the color changing bandwagon either.
No new email = dimmed (semi-transparent perhaps) icon
New email = BOLD bright icon with BOLD numbering.
How is the bright BOLD icon with BOLD numbering -not- more easy to see "at-a-glance" then a small background color change??
(You mean to say the the white envelope backround would become blue... keeping a red 'M'?)
Of course, you're free to make the request.
However, I doubt the author will feel it's significant enough to change the program.
Copying other programming's features is a liability in itself.
I'd say most people would adapt over a short time to the bolding/numbered icon to indicate new email 'at a glance'.
And actually, going from the dim version to the bright version -is- a color change.

it would be nice to have a
it would be nice to have a choice tbh, but yeah the icon lm suggestion would be a blue M when new mail has arrived (for example), either way its just a suggestion, something ld like to see as this new addon has replaced an old one that stopped working when l upgraded to the latest firefox.
