Per-account new Email notifcation / Alert Window
Forums:
Hello.
I've started using X-Notifier a few days ago, after my previous Email notifier of choice stopped being compatible with Firefox v32.
I'm using X-Notifier to control and manage a large amount of Gmail Email accounts, and would like to request the following feature:
Have X-Notifier allow the user to control new Email notifications per-account, rather than globally.
I've edited a screenshot to show what I mean:

Result?
So you want to alert on some/major accounts and not others... all in the same aggregate pop-up alert that we see now?

Hello RpD. Yes, that is correct.
If you also find this feature useful, could you please provide us with a time estimate for its implementation?
P.S.
In regards to CFBancroft reply:
While I do appreciate the time you've taken to point me out to your guide, this method is simply too cumbersome and should be controlled via X-Notifier's User Interface, like in the screenshot mock-up I've provided.

jeroen

Developer?
Sorry if I caused confusion. It was not my intention to suggest RpD is a developer of X-notifier. There is only one developer being Tobwithu, who is managing this add-on next to his daytime job. Questions can be directed to him by email: xndevel@gmail.com
He will determine whether there is need and/or time to implement a request.
In the meantime CFBancrofts suggestion is is a valid solution. When you need further assistence to workout the details of his userguide, I suggest RpD (who is the loyal workhorse in this forum) could be so kind to help you out.

Only clarifying
Well, I'm just another X-Notifier user and just wanted to help clarify what you wanted, so that Tobwithu, the developer, would have more of an idea of what to do. He reads the forums, but I think not every day, and as Jeroen suggested, his direct email is xndevel@gmail.com
I think X-Notifier is intended to be a relatively simple add-on, so some more advanced user requests are accommodated with internal edits rather than user interface rewrites, being that it's donation-ware, in two different versions. We can only ask and see what happens... In the meantime there are workarounds and users helping users.
[Edit: including short guide here from long post below]
Disable Alert per account
In the Firefox address bar, type... about:config
In the Search bar, type: enabled
Look for extensions.xnotifier.accounts[yourHost#yourUsername).enabled: 2
Double-click that line.
Change the value to: 1
Click 'OK' and close the windows and restart Firefox.
That's it... that account will now be checked for new email but will not alert you with a pop-up.

Thank you very much for the
Thank you very much for the simplified guide :)
I'm quite confident that this option is much saught after by many users with multiple accounts.
Hope to see it get implemented in the near future.

RpD and CFB discuss in past.
http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/836
and before that old forum lost...
We (CFB and RpD) did talk about "KISS" = Keep it simple and stable.
That why we and Tobwithu keep add "hidden options" instead of "implemented in the near future."
There are over 10 hidden options, about 4 more that Tobwithu did not included in FAQ,
for example "How to Disable Alert per account" not included on his FAQ.(the other three hidden options, I forgot, because lost in old forum.)
You can look at hidden options from Tobwithu on his FAQ.
http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/8
BOTTOMLINE:
If you look at http://www.babelzilla.org/
Search "WebMail Notifier" Version 2.8.2a and date 2011-11-22
I do not know why Tobwithu decide to stop using Babel Zilla. (I forgot he already told me in old forum).
Anyway there are about 30 different language on Xnotifier.
+++++++++++++++++++++++
UPDATE: October 15, 2014...
I add one link that he told in forum in past... see his comment
http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/wp/forums/topic/x-notifier-3-0b-is-waiting...
+++++++++++++++++++++++
That why Tobwithu do not included "implemented in the near future." Because of 30 language...
he do not want to bother 30 language people and update it, only solution? ONLY in 'Hidden Options'.
Accord to AMO website X-notifier have about 134,078 user.
Only TWO people "whine" you (AlderaaN) and me (CFB) to add feature.
My reason?
My wife and I share same computer (Firefox).
I do NOT want bother notifier on my wife e-mail. (I set '1' on my wife email.)
Your (AlderaaN's) reason?
You have 1000 G-mail, you want 999 to keep quite, while just one G-mail notiifer YOU!
SOOOO... I must thanks to Tobwithu for add hidden optional. I did many, many time donation to him.
What about you (AlderaaN), did you donation him recently? Because we need him to keep going on X-notifier!
Thanks for reading and understanding, CFBancroft

Good idea :-)
Perhaps showing the added part in your screenshot disabled (grayed-out), showing the values of the General tab and add a checkbox 'Override general setting' above it that, when checked, will enable this part in the Accounts tab.
And why not also put the Advanced... button there, so one could assign a different sound per account!
@RpD: Of course only if and when the developer (Tobwithu) has time and is inclined to implement all of this ;-)

Rewrite of Guide
Rewritte [of original] CFB's Guide for Disabling Alerts Per Account... for CFBancroft and anyone else to use.
[CFB has adopted this rewrite, original is gone]
My rewrite is overly "wordy", so I'll summarize below, followed by my long text.
Disable Alert per account
In the Firefox address bar, type... about:config
In the Search bar, type: enabled
Look for extensions.xnotifier.accounts[yourHost#yourUsername).enabled: 2
Double-click that line.
Change the value to: 1
Click 'OK' and close the windows and restart Firefox.
That's it... that account will now be checked for new email but will not alert you with a pop-up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[FF] Turn off Alerts per account [Advanced configuration]
For: X-Notifier 3.4.5 and later
Before going further, understand that you can enable/disable email checking completely, per account.
See X-Notifier "Options", Accounts tab, with the account list on the right side.
In the account list, on the left side of each account, there is a checkbox to Enable (checkmark) or Disable (UNcheckmark) each account. If UNcheckmarked, X-Notifier will -not- check for new email at all. If checkmarked, X-Notifier will check for new email, and, if there is any new email, X-Notifier will show a number on the X-Notifier envelope icon, and also 'alert' you... by popping up a little window showing accounts with new email.
If you want to have X-Notifier check for new email, but disable the alert pop-up for a particular account... you can edit the configuration settings.
The normal value settings (controlled by the checkbox) are...
0 : do not include the account in email checking (UNcheckmarked/disabled)
2 : include the account in email checking and alert (checkmarked/enabled)
However, you can edit the X-Notifier configuration to use another setting...
1 : include the account in email checking, but without an alert (this will show as checkmarked)
To Edit the X-Notifier Settings:
In the 'location bar' (where you normally enter a www. address)...
Type... about:config
An "about:config" configuration editor window opens...
In the Search bar, type: enabled
Then look for the account on which you wish to disable alerting...
Look for extensions.xnotifier.accounts[yourHost#yourUsername].enabled: 2
Double-click that account .enabled line, and a value input box pops up...
Change the value to: 1
And click 'OK'
Close the windows, and restart Firefox.
---
If you again look at X-Notifier, "Options", Accounts tab... your account list will show your account with a checkmark (enabled), but now it is set only to check for new email but not alert you... since you set the configuration to "1".
Warning:
If you click on the check box and UNcheckmark it, the setting reverts to 0 (disabled)... and you will have to edit the configuration setting again if you want to set it to 1 (no alert). Clicking it back again, to checkmark the box, will set it to 2 (enabled with alerts).
FYI...
Configuration settings:
0 : do not check for new email (UNcheckmarked/account disabled)
1 : check for new email but without alerts (checkmarked/enabled without alert)
2 : check for new email and generate alerts (Checkmarked/account enabled with alerts)

Where is this LIKE button ;-)
RpD is delivering the goods as always!!
Btw: The drupal html of the replies in this post is overflowing in my Firefox browser, truncating the text on the right side. I have to zoom out twice (Ctrl-) to display the complete text.

Hmm... not sure I understand. FF 32 is reflowing the text if I resize my window... down to a certain point, then the horizontal scrollbars come on. Do you mean the bolding/italic html? ...is it showing the codes instead/as well? Are you using old FF? ;)

Found the cause
No, updated to FF32 yesterday. But I used default font Times New Roman size 16. Setting it to 12 solves this problem (FF: Tools - Options - Content tab).
But now the problem is I have to strain my eyes ;-)

Ow
Font size 12 certainly is small.
But I don't lose any text, just the right border of the text box... the text pretty much reflows until that point, then there's the horizontal scroll bars... which don't really help much, the text doesn't scroll, just the page. I'm only losing about half a letter though, when I squeeze up the browser window. Oh well.

I've put it back to size 16, because this doesn't cause the problem on most sites (XP laptop). Here is the result effecting your Rewrite of Guide post: https://db.tt/DWZlGlCF
It's a minor problem and does not belong here.
