I don't get it, does it work?

I was just forced to finally update my ff past a version that has the old xnotifier work.

I installed the new one, can't add any accounts. I try logging into my accounts by hand as suggested, nothing happens. no accound is visible anywhere in the setting menu, the dashboard also doesnt help. All it does is give me a link to gmail which works much better as a Bookmark.

No new emails are being recognized. What am I doing wrong?

What version of Firefox are you running?
Have you tried X-Notifier 3.5.23 on that version of FF?
When you define your accounts in X-Notifier 4.0.3, you must scroll down to the bottom and click the Save button.

wow, the various versions of this are really confusing

first of all, i'm using 53.something, the latest of firefox, 32 bit.

downloading this

https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/xnotifier/ which is apparently 4.0.3, i could at least set up my accounts, however its not finding any emails and clicking on any one account from the menu, i end in the same account everytime.

cant install 3.5.23 because its not compatible with this version of firefox...

Sounds like X-Notifier 4.0.3 may not be well installed. Perhaps you might try again. I, and many others, have it working fine ...on (my portable) version of Firefox 53.0.3... with 10 accounts defined, besides X-Notifier forums and scripts.

I was running Firefox 49 with X-Notifier 3.5.23 for a long time, then I updated Firefox to 53.0.2 (now 53.0.3) and X-Notifier 3.5.23 continues running fine with two dozen email accounts.  So I say again, did you try installing 3.5.23 or are you just assuming it's not compatible (because perhaps it says that somewhere)?
Many others also run XN 3.x on FF 50+ (but this may become impossible with the release version of FF 57+, if Mozilla/Firefox removes the old addon programming interface, as it seems they have said).

NOTE:  For a Gmail fix for XN 3.5.23, you'll need to download the user-fixed Gmail script for XN 3.5.23... (I expect that the user took the fix from the embedded script in XN 4.0.3). See CFBancroft's post with link for the 'custom' gmail script and instructions:
