X Notifier replacement

After many years of using X-notifier which I always considered one of the all time top five firefox addons and due to changes made by firefox which now inhibits the function of X-notifier,I have now reverted to Thunderbird.

I unfortunately couldn't get latest versions of X-notifier or X-notifier Neo to work.

I was pleased to note that Thunderbird has recently also reverted to the Mozilla Foundation.  It is easier to set up than it used to be for sure and does what it says "on the tin."

So I wish to thank Tobewithu for all his work over the years and wish him every success in his new business.

Kind Regards,   weg.

I agree with RpD, I also thought the program was dead and the developer was disinterested bat ...

By reading all the posts and seeing the developer efforts I changed the route. I loved XN and I will love it.

I asked for an alternative but now that the alternative to XN is only the XN I don't see the problem.

X-Notifier is still the best, no other words.

""Thank you tobwithu, let me stab at you anyway.""   Don't know where this idiotic quotation is from, certainly wasn't from me !

"X-Notifier 3.5.23 can be installed on Thunderbird, which is not a replacement."  What on earth would anyone want to install an old version addon on Thunderbird for when it functions completely adequately as is !

"Guess who's the naughty grandchild."  Sticks and stones.

Why the removal of my replies;too near the truth perhaps !!!

"No, you can't discuss things without getting insulting."      Not insulting but factual

"If you can't see the utility of X-N on Thunderbird, I'll not waste time further."   Not required

Your time was not required from the initial innocent post and you appear to be not man enough to let all my comments through!!!

And

I said you were like my late Granny came back from the other side to haunt me !!!

I did not call YOU idiotic but the quote YOU inserted which was not mine "Thank you tobwithu, let me stab at you anyway."

Of course XN is not required on Thunderbird.   Who in heaven's name is going to install Thunderbird just to install and old version of XN that may no longer function where it's supposed to on a web browser !

Thunderbird as I said in the beginning may be a replacement for some.

"Learn to accept opposing opinions and discuss them without being childish." and learn not to poke your nose in where it is not required and think of yourself as the be-all-and-end-all and ultimate authority when that is clearly not the case.

Still think you're like my Dear departed Granny by the way !!!

Perhaps like me,English is not your native language but from what you have posted,I am inclined to think that parhaps I comprehend the "semantics" and nuances of the language a little better then you do !

"Enough"   Well thank my lucky stars !!!

You're ESL... English second language. I guess that explains it.
Mozilla does not program Thunderbird. period.

"You're ESL... English second language. I guess that explains it."       It explains nothing !

Because some people have fluency in more than one language there are times when knowledge of 2nd and 3rd languages surpass that of native speakers.   In some cases, that isn't too difficult !!!

Really got to endeavour to have the last word haven't you !!!

No.
>:)

Wait a minute !

I'm not by any chance dealing with someone from La La Land here am I .

Tell me you're not Kim Jong-un's little brother!  No,wait a minute,he was bumped off wasn't he! !!!

From inaccuracy to offense to laugh riot. Post onward.

"From inaccuracy to offense to laugh riot."     A good self description of you.

Innacuracy ? "Mozilla does not program Thunderbird. period."

Whom might I ask ever posted the word "program" other than yourself in this prolonged thread and as Shakespeare might say could be described as ,"Much Ado About Nothing."

From your spelling of program I would hazard a guess that you are American by the way.  Some might even be tempted to say,"I guess that explains it."

No offence intended by me to the excellent American contributors on this forum.

You claimed Thunderbird had reverted to Mozilla.
That would mean development had returned to Mozilla... though now I'm sure you'll deny that too.
You're becoming as tedious as Drumpf... deny, lie, spin, deny.
Mozilla has the same legal and fiscal support now, and no more, that it had when they first divested themselves of Thunderbird development. The only thing to 'revert' would be the programming development.
Now you slight American and excuse it at the same time.
You just can't accept that your statement of reversion is wrong and Thunderbird remains in the hands of a user group of developers as far as programming goes.  Programme that.

Enjoy your meal did you!

"Thunderbird’s new home is.. The Mozilla Foundation"

Again https://www.ghacks.net/2017/05/09/thunderbirds-new-home-is-the-mozilla-f...

Please explain to me what the difference is between the above statement on G Hacks on 9th May and reverting to the Mozilla Foundation because I certainly see no difference in the two.

You were the one who brought up policies and programming, and I'm glad to see you can make use of dictionaries, because I made no reference to any such things unless you did.

If I am Captain of a ship I don't give a damn who sweeps the decks, fixes the engines or feeds the crew as long as the jobs are done to my directives and that's the way I,and others, interpret the very recent changes with Thunderbird with the Mozilla Foundation being of course the Captain.

I in fact in no way was slighting Americans, particularly as my Wife is from Boise, Idaho but pointing out your ludicrous misuse of a phrase concerning non native English speakers. "You're ESL... English second language. I guess that explains it."

I must wonder why some of my posts and most of yours have been removed. Perhaps someone hasn't got faith in their own arguments or perhaps editing by omission.

Why not allow them all back in and let the forum members judge how someone, specifically you, has made a mountain out of a molehill.

I'm sure many of the members will have had a good laugh and I think not at my expense !!!

I can go on with this as long as you can as I find it all quite amusing.

Your ship analogy is inaccurate. Mozilla has done nothing different. All that happened is that the 'Thuderbird Council' decided not to change hosts... at this time.  There is no reversion.
So there is no great effect from Mozilla, no greater benefit to Thunderbird, nor any reversion to Mozilla.
No change is no change.

Thunderbird is a full email client. Very few would want to set up all their emails in a full email client as a replacement for a simple tiny email check notifier in their browser. They already have their own email methods.  Thunderbird does not notify within a web browser... it has to be running separately, yet another program in the background.
Thank tobwithu and then say 'hey everybody, replace x-notifier with thunderbird' on his own forums.
Nice gesture. Not.

"Thunderbird is a full email client. Very few would want to set up all their emails in a full email client as a replacement for a simple tiny email check notifier in their browser"

If it is a full email client then why does it require as you appear to favour an outdate dversion of XN might I ask !

Unfortunately the "simple tiny email check notifier in their browser" no longer works as it once did for many as is evident on the forum post and from posts from "tobewithu" himself in which he explains X-notifier will not support Gmail any more (X-notifer Neo will)

Submitted by tobwithu on Tue, 05/02/2017 - 13:21 Forums: News Recently Gmail updated their login page. It is more complicated than the previous page. I could not find a way to simulate user login in X-notifier. (Maybe it is what google wants) In future update of X-notifier, Gmail script will be dropped. If you need Gmail notification, try to use X-notifier Neo. Firefox : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/xnotifier-neo/

And for some neither does XN Neo work.

It is obvious that your interpretation of the events in Thunderbird differs from mine and many others.

I have not and never had had any issue with tobewithu

My issue is with your imperious know all attitude and I stand by what I said, put all the posts up and let all see what candidly a clown you have become by making such a big issue out of an innocent initial post every word of which I still stand by !

No, you just don't understand simple logic... no change is no reversion.

You can't spell tobwithu correctly.
You seem to be unaware that tobwithu released an updated X-Notifier 4.0.3 for Chrome and Firefox that specifically addresses the new Google/Gmail login, as well as  yahoo and hotmail fixes.
Some people go down with their ship analogy.
Mozilla does not captain Thunderbird.
Both Mozilla and the 'Thunderbird Council' can pull out of the agreement at any time, thus the Council captains Thunderbird and can sail it away to another host. They aren't just deckhands, mechanics, or cooks. They work with Firefox developers, not for Mozilla.

Have a nice life.

And you don't not seem to understand that Thunderbird operates solely under the auspices of Mozilla  !!!

Philipp Kewisch wrote on May 9, 2017 at 14:13:

We will prioritize services that are either simple to migrate or currently require extra maintenance by Mozilla Corporation staff. As you mentioned, build infrastructure is one of those services and pretty high up on the list. The website is already in the process of being moved to thunderbird.net, which includes separate hosting. We will collaborate with Mozilla to ensure a good prioritization, at the time I do not know what services will continue to be hosted by Mozilla once we are done.

Regarding trademarks, Thunderbird is a registered wordmark for Mozilla, so without permission we cannot use either Mozilla Thunderbird or Thunderbird. We don’t need to go through this process at the time since the Mozilla Foundation is our home.

I guess this makes Mozilla the Captain   !!!

Crews take orders from captains.
"We will collaborate with Mozilla"
Mozilla is a host/home for the Thunderbird project.
Semantics. Enjoy your perspective.

If you can't se  who is the boss in this Mozilla /Thunderbird association I'm truly sorry for you!

Again I ask you to restore the unexpurgated posts both yours and mine since you have obviously cherry picked leaving my responses to your "answers."

People will then be able to make up their own minds and maybe understand why I respond with such vigour to you.  But then, that's not going to happen is it ! !!  One might think you had something particularly in your posts you do not wish to be seen !!!

As for my spelling of tobewithu, I certainly picked up a few spelling errors in your posts but why should I point that out, after all that would only be becoming petty and pedantic would it not !!!

What a laugh. Spelling errors of mine.
I finally see now what a waste of time it's been conversing with an insulting denier of reality or other viewpoints.
I can't restore deleted posts.. I'm not the be-all and end-all, remember?
I deleted them because you were insulting.
Thanks for saying you're sorry.
Bye

I'm glad you find your spelling errors funny but I find it really sad for a supposed native English speaker.

It took you quite some time to come to your conclusion about me;I arrived at a somewhat similar conclusion about you after about your 3rd post

. What !!! you can't restore deleted posts, what an admission from one so knowledgeable. Strange too, because I can. What's that, how can that be done. Again, look a bit deeper.

Strange also that you deleted so many of your own posts.

The day I apologise in any way to the likes of you, Hell will truly freeze over !!!

P.S.          Very sadly Mr Know All,I have to call a Halt here devastating though it may be for you as I'm off for a nice relaxing weekend in beautiful Rome.

But don't worry, as Schwarzenegger said, I'll be back !!!

"But don't worry, as Schwarzenegger said, I'll be back !!!" -> actually it was Terminator :D

WTF!!! This forum software does not even use a god damn quote option!? This is ridiculous. Hey what about a spellcheck? :D

It's 2017.
