Which version???

Can anyone tell me which version of X-notifier works best with which version of firefox. I have been using it for many years and always been very happy with its performance but lately I can't seem to get it to work with any of the latest versions of FF.

Thank you

X-Notifier 4.0.3 was released to deal with Google's latest changes to the Gmail login... but that doesn't mean Google is done making changes.  X-N 3.5.23 has not been updated for the Gmail problem, but not everyone's Gmail accounts have been affected yet. Just depends on whether Google has rolled out change to your accounts yet.

I am using Firefox 53.0.2 (32-bit) and still doesn't work. I tried Neo and everytime I close my computer, Neo deletes all my accounts and then when I reboot, I have to set them all up again. Too bad, it seems I have to look elewhere.

Same here I think I will need to find another mail client but finding one that worked as well as X-notifier is going to be hard?

Have you tried troubleshooting?

In Firefox...
- With X-Notifier 3.5.23 or older, you can right-click on the X-Notifier envelope icon, then click your problem account and see if it logs you into your inbox (if not, check your password in X-Notifier account definition).
With X-Notifier 4.0.3, you simply click the X-Notifier envelope icon and then click your problem account to see if it logs you into your inbox.
- You can open a new tab and manually go to your email provider's website and login to your account to see if there are any prompts that might be interfering with login/checking.
- You can disable all your other add-ons and restart Firefox to see if X-Notifier works without them.
- You can create a new user profile, add just X-Notifier and manually add just your problem account (do not import it) and see if it works.
- You can clear cache and cookies.

The X-Notifier developer has been very busy with his main job... don't know if he'll have time to check a logfile if you were to create one, as described in detail below, or... http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/4

Creating a log file, in more detail:

X-Notifier 3.5.23 and older:
1) Right-click the X-Notifier envelope icon and then hold 'Shift' key and click "Help"... this will enable a logging feature... ( you should see 'Log' on the menu when you open it again).
2) Again right-click the X-Notifier envelope icon and then click "Check now"... and wait until X-Notifier shows 'Not checked' on your account (hover mouse pointer over X-Notifier icon).
3) A third time, right-click X-Notifier envelope icon and then click "Log"... and it will prompt you to save the log file.
4) Create a new email addressed to xndevel@gmail.com, type a polite informative comment... and attach the log file, and send it.
When the developer has time, perhaps he can find a problem with your login process in the log file.

X-Notifier 4.0.3:

1) You simply click the X-Notifier envelope icon, then hold 'Shift' key and click "Help"... to enable the logging feature... ( you should see 'Log' on the menu when you open it again).
2) Again click the X-Notifier envelope icon and then click "Check now"... and wait until X-Notifier shows your account is 'not checked' (it will be shown in red when you later click the X-Notifier icon after the 'Check now' cycle has been completed.)
3) A third time, click X-Notifier envelope icon and then click "Log"... and it will prompt you to save the log file.
4) Create a new email addressed to xndevel@gmail.com, type a polite informative comment... and attach the log file, and send it.

I've tried all you have said but it's made no difference? I cleared all the cache and all my cookies and reinstalled just one account manually and then tried it but it would not log in? it was red, so I tried just clicking on the red txt in hope that it would take me to my account but for some odd reason it took me to an account I hadn't added to X-nitifier although it was one of my othere accounts but how it did that I don't know since I had deleted all cache and cookies and used a fresh install of X-notifier. I have sent off the log file so fingers crossed ?

That's a little odd for it to go to an account  you hadn't added... that points to some kind of corruption or conflict, I would think.  Have you tried a new user profile?

netsniper's picture

Do you mean a new user profile in FF ??

Yes

netsniper's picture

Ok done that so now I take it I will have to rebuild my profile and install all my add ons, bookmarks  etc? I have saved a copy of my profile though.

Well, if your accounts are all working in the new profile, then you have to decide whether to fuss with your old profile to get accounts working... or begin again with a new one... or whatever. Be aware that if you install everything like it is in old profile, you may get the same results... or better.  A new user profile is a known remedy for Firefox problems.
If you go with new profile, I would add one addon at a time, set one customization at a time... and do a 'Check now' to see if your accounts stop working.  It may be that just your accounts in X-N got corrupted.  I would redefine my accounts from scratch and not import them.
It's the price of troubleshooting when something gets corrupted. I've done it before, but not many times... just depends on how much effort you want to make.

Point taken and thank you for the great advice :) The only issue I have now is the little notification window dosen't seem to be showing at the bottom right? even though I have it set to show notifications, and the x-notifrier envelope is only on top and not on the bottom task bar, do you have any advice for these 2 issues ?

Are you using an addon to restore the 'status bar' or 'addon bar'?
Or an old version of Firefox (before they removed those bars in newer versions)?
There is an addon in Mozilla Addons website, called 'The Addon Bar (Restored)'.
In Firefox, X-Notifier, Options... on the General tab, there is the checkbox for 'Show statusbar icon'.
Also, if you right-click FF's toolbar, or click View, Toolbars... you'll see the Customize item... once that's open, you can drag the X-Notifier icon, if there is one in the Customize window, to wherever you want.

Another person had trouble with the notification pop-up... there is the checkbox for 'show alert window' and 'autohide notifications' on the General tab in X-Notifier, Options. You might try UNchecking the 'show alert window', click OK, and restart browser... then go back and checkmark the box again.
I'll note that when a new email appears in X-Notifier's count... it takes a little while for my pop-up notification to appear, and it's slower to disappear.

Are you using an addon to restore the 'status bar' or 'addon bar'?  Not using any addon for status bar or any add on bar.
Or an old version of Firefox (before they removed those bars in newer versions)? I using the latest FF 53.02
There is an addon in Mozilla Addons website, called 'The Addon Bar (Restored)'. Tried it and made no difference.
In Firefox, X-Notifier, Options... on the General tab, there is the checkbox for 'Show statusbar icon'. I don't have a general tab?

If you use the latest 53.0.2, as do I... what "bottom task bar" do you mean?  ...the one with gray icons labeled "Downloads Bookmarks History Add-ons Sync Options"?

The general tab can be seen in X-Notifier, Options... http://oi68.tinypic.com/e9hf7s.jpg

You must have an older version of X-notifier to me? here is mine.. http://i67.tinypic.com/oggzkn.jpg

This is what I call my task bar which is on the very bottom of my pc which is where its always been and I have always had the notification to the right but not anymore?.....  http://i68.tinypic.com/jt46r5.jpg

Ok, you're using version 4 (I have both on different versions of FF)  ...so there's no General tab and no option to set 'show statusbar icon'; however, you said "the x-notifrier envelope is only on top and not on the bottom task bar".  I've never seen the x-notifier envelope outside of Firefox on the Windows task bar. I've only seen it with XN 3.5.23 in older Firefox status or addon bar. So I guess I'm out of suggestions.

Here you are  this is where it is now, I'll upload a pic of it from the windows task bar when I next turn on my laptop http://i65.tinypic.com/vzhuh0.jpg

Yes, that is the normal position of the X-Notifier icon.
