New Version Questions/Problems

First, I see people specifying which version of XN they are using. How do I determine that?

I appear to have a new version as on FF I can no longer display a sidebar. My XN accounts are in an icon at the top of my browser. I assume this is intentional and indicates I'm on a different version that I was on yesterday. But I'm having problems.

All my XN accounts were wiped out. So I have to add them all back manually. Luckily, FF Preference Manager still has all my passwords. But even after manually adding them XN is not displaying any indication that I have unread emails. All the account aliases are red with no numbers next to them. However, I know that my credentials are correct because if I click on any of the account aliases, I am taken to my email account (all Gmail) as expected.

Does this new version of XN display the number of unread messages? If so, why are the numbers not showing for me? Did I do something wrong? Is this a bug in XN?

I am on FF 53.0 on Mac OSX 10.11.6

Thanks.

In your Add-on Manager you see X-notifier: click on More, then you see your version. Reading your post my guess is you updated from 3.5.23 to 4.0.2, which malfunctions for Gmail. The developer solved the issue in 4.0.3, which will no doubt also reach you shortly.

Version 4 lacks much functionality of version 3. The developer is forced to drop this functionality by the restrictions of the new WebExtensions (add-ons development) API (Application Programming Interface) of Mozilla. The old API (XUL/XCOM) will be removed from Firefox version 57 (14 Nov), which will end X-notifier version 3, because it depends on it.

Thank you. If I click on "More..." I can see that I am on 4.0.3. I don't know what version I updated from but from your reply it seems that the unread email count should be showing for me, but it isn't.

So I removed XN and XN-neo from FF. Quit FF. Reopened FF. Installed XN. Added a Gmail account. Same symptom. My account was not checked. But I can click on it and go to Gmail.

However, when I quit FF and relaunch, all the accounts I've added to XN are gone.

XN: 4.0.3

FF: 53.0.0

OS: Mac OS 10.11.6

Do you accept and keep cookies? (Options - Privacy tab)

I was not remembering history. I tried to use "custom" history but that didn't seem to work either - where I would just accept cookies for XN. It was only when I set FF to "remember history" (all history) that all my problems went away - my accounts are now remembered after shutting FF down and my accounts are checked automatically with the number of unread messages displayed.

Unfortunately, this is not what I want. I do not want my browser to remember any history.

I'll have to find another solution.

Thanks for all your help.

For me the setting to keep cookies (incl 3d party) until closing Firefox works.

Using 'custom' you also have to keep your (Gmail) account cookies!!

On the thread about 3.5.23, tobwithu said that Gmail would not be covered in the future because he could not figure out how to get past the two-page  login. Does this not apply to all version? I was assuming it did.

Each time I close Firefox I lose all settings and when I re-open I get the X-notifier page. I have deleted all extensions that clear cache and passwords and checked my settings  in Firefox. While I do clear my cache upon closing there is nothing checked that indicates passwords should be cleared. This only started today, Sunday May 17, yeaster all was fine. I am using X-notifier version 4.03 and Firefox version 53.0.2. Any help would be appreciated.
