Helping and not yelling

I really don't understand.

I'm one what wanted to keep 3.5.23 until i see 4.0.x more stable or the old one not working at all, i can admit. Yes, i don't like 4.0.x when i see it, but i understand the main problem is the Firefox limitations of the new extension API, a new beginning for the extension, and the beginning are always difficult. But at the same time i see all those hate in Firefox Addons comments, and here too, yelling about what crap is 4.0.x, what the hell are you doing developer, and somethings like that... people who seems don't understand whats happening and don't want to read.

Now, Gmail changes things and 3.5.23 is beginning to fail to work. And when i want to test the last 4.0.x, i see the last one is 4.0.2, from November 2016, more than six months ago, what is a long long time from a new beginning and for an extension from this kind. And i come here and see that, maybe, the developer has give up and it's not here anymore. Who can blame him: First, Firefox changes things (what is understandable, until some point) and break your work from years, and you try to do again your work with the new API, all the people is yelling you about the new extension is crap, what are you doing that, and make a fix urgently. Meanwhile, he knows what are the problems, he wants all the missing things in the new version, and wants to figure out what he can do, but maybe his life is not the same when he do the old extension, maybe then he didn't have a full job, and now maybe have a full job and family, and he can't work at the same level than then for these reason or anothers. And doing all of this for free.

I hope this is not the case, and the developer can work more in the new XN. XN4 needs a bit of work, now i test it a bit and i see it stills have issues with multiple gmails handling, at least, but you can see it has the core XN behaviour right there, and only needs a bit of work on that and after this go further. I will help to make XN4 better between my possibilities, and i wish i could donating to help the developer, but i'm totally broke, so i hope someone else can help in that way too. Starting with the ideas, maybe the developer can do a 5.3.24 (if it's a quick-easy fix for gmail) and make an 4.0.3 with the ability to have both installed at the same time, to make easier to test the new one without losing the ability to check the mails. Or maybe is some other extension or hack to do this, i check yesterday but i didn't find anything. Maybe the developer doesn't want, or can, make this extension anymore, but can release the source code for XN4 for someone of the knowledge can resume the work since he does. And i hope Firefox open, at least a little bit, its new API extension to make easier the lives of the developers, and make better their extensions.

Anyway, you, developer, if you give up or not, i want to say thanks for your work, and you need to be proud because i think you do this years one of the best, if not the best, mail checker for firefox for years. I'm sure that sentence is very near to the truth.

For all the people, you can keep yelling, or maybe can helping. It's your choice.

PD.: English is not my main language, sorry if i made some mistakes writing this.

You made a nice post and very gracious of you to recognize his work... and the difficulty caused by the new Firefox.  Perhaps he can find time to work on it or perhaps not.  Those who cannot wait will have to move on and would hopefully appreciate what they have had from X-Notifier in the past. For me, X-Notifier 3.5.23 continues to work for all my accounts except one custom script for an art website.

And for what email providers it supports, X-Notifier 4.02 continues to work on all my accounts. Very odd to see others having so much trouble, but maybe Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail are changing things and eventually we may all have to deal with it. Perhaps the developer is waiting for his accounts to stop working also... if no one has sent him a broken account username/login to test.

At some point, I think we will find out the future of X-Notifier... from the developer.
