How to change script URL

X-Notifier is the reason I moved from Chrome to Firefox...so I could quickly access Outlook.com.  Unfortunately, it's trying to resolve to mail.live.com instead of outlook.com (yes, I know they're the same) and about half the time when I click on the X-Notifier icon in the nav bar it just sits there...never taking me to outlook.com.

But if I type outlook.com into the Firefox URL window it goes directly to my inbox.  Sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't.  Most often it does not work if Firefox has been closed (not totally off...just not opened on my Mac).

I was just wondering if the target URL could be changed to outlook.com?  FWIW, the same thing happens in Chrome, using a Chrome extension that tries to go to mail.live.com, so the URL seems to be the culprit.  Thanks.

I don't have such problem. I've choosed hotmail and added my username and pass, and when ever I click on my email in xnotifier, the browser ( chrome or firefox ) resolve in the address bar such situation automatically, and I always get my inbox in outlook.com. Microsoft actually resolve such thing I believe and always direct me into inbox of outlook.

Have you tried the various options in X-Notifier's 'Options'?  (Use multiple login, Enable auto-login, etc.)

Do you have any other mail-related addons or other software running also?

I have hotmail, outlook, and 'live' accounts... I've seen an occasional account confusion, perhaps... but I can open all three accounts in tabs at the same time, and they seem to work well. (I have all the abovementioned options 'checked'.)

I'll note that I had confusion of Facebook accounts (have more than one), and that was because I was manually opening a tab for an account... and then X-Notifier would do its mail checks and confuse the open tab.  The solution was to use X-Notifier's pop-up list of accounts to open a tab to the account that I wanted to use... then X-Notifier mail-checking wouldn't confuse the tab. Maybe your situation is related... whether it's X-Notifier or other mail software.

Clearing cookies and caches can help you.

@tobwithu: it was a brand new install of Firefox...never used the browser before, so cookies and cache should have been clean.  Only other email related extension is one for mailto so opening a default email client goes to Outlook.com.  FWIW, this same thing happens on both Firefox and Chrome (with a similar Chrome extension).

I'm not scolding, but... to assist with the problem, as much detail as possible is helpful.

How many accounts are you setting up in X-Notifier? Just one outlook.com account?  Others?
I assume you're using the 'Hotmail' script in X-Notifier?

First...
Clicking the X-Notifier envelope icon has two actions...
...when new email is indicated by the (orange) envelope icon, clicking it should open new tab(s) logged into your inbox(es) for the account(s) which have new email (except for POP3/IMAP accounts... for which you can specify a 'Link' to open)
...when there's no new email, clicking the (gray) envelope icon will take you to the first account listed in X-Notifier Options defined account list (unless it's POP3/IMAP... which needs a 'Link' specified).... including XN-forums, if it's first.

And... what is the situation in Firefox? You say "Only other email related extension is one for mailto...".
Would that be "Live Mailer" by Sebastian Stohr (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/livemailer/?src=api)?
That extension is expressly for "mail.live.com" and says "Works on Outlook.com as well"... perhaps it doesn't work quite as well.
Can you try disabling that extension for a while and see if X-Notifier works 'normally' (as it does for most other users, since no one else has reported this problem, out of hundreds of thousands of downloads/users)?

And also... what is the situation with Chrome?
You mention "the same thing happens in Chrome, using a Chrome extension that tries to go to mail.live.com".
What is the "similar Chrome extension"?  ("Mailto:" or "Mailto: Hotmail" or... ?)

I'd be guessing there's a conflict on your system... interfering with X-Notifier.

I had this same problem today. My only way around it was to copy (into another folder) then edit the hotmail.js file.

It was looking for mail.live.com so I changed it to dub121.mail.live.com, saved it, then opened the Options in X-Notifier, clicked the Scripts button, then Add, and found the newly saved version.

I used 7-Zip to find and copy it, then right click Edit.

I hope I've explained that well enough, sorry if I haven't.

Thanks to RpD for explaining how to locate the .js file in this post, http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/wp/forums/topic/hotmail-name-change-to-out....

If email checking is working fine... but you need to change the URL which is opened when you click the account name (or when new email is indicated)...

...you can now set the URL to be opened (Firefox, X-Notifier version 3.3.3) by following the procedure below...
...(just replace the reference to 'mobile' link with your preferred link)...

http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/602

Editing Firefox's 'about:config' and setting the key...
"extensions.xnotifier.accounts.(emailhost#youraccount).link"
...will cause X-Notifier to go to the URL set for that key... when you click the account in X-Notifier account list (and when you click the X-Notifier envelope icon when there's new email indicated, I believe)...  rather than having to edit the Hotmail.js script.
I'm not sure if the link edit will resolve your email checking situation the same as your hotmail.js edit though... just something to try that might be easier and more permanent than having to edit hotmail.js everytime there's an X-Notifier update.

Thanks RpD, I'll give that a go.

Myself I use Hotmail and it works... if it apply to you,
same time RpD's suggest that link to my post how to explain.

@RpD thank you for refer to my post.
