Location of x-notifier icon

Hope I have the terminology correct. Over the past few months, the location of the x-notifier icon has changed on a couple of my computers. I'm used to having it in the toolbar (top of the screen to the right of the address bar), and not at the bottom of the screen. How can I move the thing?

To clarify, I don't want to show the full x-notifier toolbar, only the icon showing the total count of all mail in all inboxes.

Thanks.

To hide statusbar icon

X-notifier options -> General -> Uncheck 'Show statusbar icon'

To hide toolbar

Firefox menu -> Options -> Uncheck 'X-notifeir toolbar'

Thanks. Hiding and unhiding is no problem; the question is how to get the icon to show at the top of the Firefox screen and not the bottom.

I guess you want the xn icon in the navigation toolbar and on some of your computers it's not there anymore. Right-click in an empty area of any toolbar and choose Customize... There you'll find the xn icon. Unless it is sitting in another toolbar location. While you have the Customize Toolbar window opened, you can drag the icon from there or from the present location to the desired location.

Thanks. I'm at home now, on the computer that has the icon where I want it, but I'll check it out tomorrow. Never thought of the customization menu -- long story short, I thought that "Customize" option  had been added by the Toolbar Buttons add-on.

I'll try it tomorrow; I guess I may have to use the XN options to remove it at the bottom of the screen and then see if the toolbar customize icons include one for XN.

Appreciate your help.

You can toggle the Add-on Bar at the bottom with keystroke Ctrl+/.
It's in the FF Menu Bar at View - Toolbars.

Glad to be of help.

Thanks for the help. Right clicked on the bottom bar where the XN icon appeared and unchecked the option to show it.  Then up to the top of the screen, right-clicked to bring up the "customize" option and the XN icon was among the among the available options. Dragged it to the bar and all is well.

If anyone with the same question is reading this, trying to move the icon either to the top or the bottom, you first have to remove the icon that is visible, then use customize to put it elsewhere.

@tito john

Perhaps you're confusing the 'main' X-Notifier icon... with the 'statusbar' X-Notifier icon?

1) As admin has said, if you want to show/hide the X-Notifier icon on the Add-on Bar (formerly known as the 'status bar') at the bottom of the Firefox window, you just check/uncheck that option ("Show statusbar icon") in X-Notifier 'Options'.
This is a separate icon from the main toolbar icon... and showing/hiding the Add-on Bar/statusbar icon, is different from show/hiding the Add-on Bar itself.

2) So... as far as moving the main X-Notifier icon...
...after opening the Toolbars, Customize window...
...you can move that main X-Notifier icon from/to anywhere... from/into the toolbars at top, or back into the Customize window to remove it, or even down to the Add-on Bar (even right beside the other icon, from the 'Show statusbar icon' option of X-Notifier 'Options'... thus having two X-Notifier icons there, if you wish).
You don't have to remove anything to use the Customize movement... you don't have to grab it from the Customize window if it's visible somewhere else (except for that separate statusbar icon, which is different).

At least, I don't... and nobody that I've helped with this has mentioned so either.
(This is with the latest version of Firefox, that I have, 21.0 ...and previous versions that I've used.)

This post is just for the sake of clarity, not a personal challenge. ;)

You might look for

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/status-4-evar/

to keep STATUS, that Firefox replace with Add-on Bar,
but I am not sure how it work or program,
because I am confuse between Status and Add-on Bar.
BUT, RIGHT NOW I AM USING Status-4-evar, I LOVE IT.

I think you will LOVE IT too.

I hope that will solve your probem that Tobwithu, jeroen, and RpD do not understand what you are trying to say.

jeroen's picture

@RpD: Thanks. I was aware of the confusion, but lost for time. And since tito's problem was solved, I thought "O well..." Not happy leaving it there, I was hoping you would set things straight ;-)

@Rpd and CFBancroft: statusbar icon is a confusing name since it's now sitting in the Add-on Bar. Suggest you should elaborate in your FAQ topic:
[FF] How to hide X-Notifier statusbar icon, or X-Notifier toolbar
and add , or Add-on Bar

@CFBancroft: I am questioning if there is something lacking in our understanding or that tito was just confused and unclear how he solved his problem. Since you didn't include yourself with the misunderstanding people, perhaps you could explain it to us?

Long time ago, I ask Tobwithu to create "wiki" so people can edit "manual" for WMN/XN.

So that way people click on HELP and it will show up website XN FAQ.

Tobwithu did FAQ only 6 so far,

BUT Tobwithu give me "previldge" to create FAQ,
I must thanks to Tobwithu for trust me.
because I always help Tobwithu with my MAC experience for 3-4 years since version 1.

So I did create 12 FAQ so far, not perfect.

If you find any mistake spelling or suggest grammar or clarify ...
just type it and I will copy and paste on the TOP of FAQ,
after you read and accept, then you remove yourself from FAQ,
and of course I will acknowldge you ...

for example

Thanks to jeroen for edit/suggest, same idea as RpD as you see in FAQ post.

My goal to help people to read FAQ easier and than repeat ask question on this forums.

Keep in mind, English is my second language.
Sometime I read and misunderstood what you trying say or other people says, please forgive me.

Bottomline I am LOYAL WMN/XN user.

Thanks for asking question and understanding, CFBancroft

Because software makers like to keep changing things and because they like to make umpteen ways to do the same thing... a person can grow weary of delineating the myriad variations, although people can be confused without them, and confused by them.

I wasn't really commenting on anything 'left out' by anyone... I just read the original poster's replies, and inferred some things (perhaps incorrectly)... and thought I'd just try to add some clarification in (but unfortunately I grow convoluted sometimes and then I have to rewrite).  It's a chore to cover all the bases without adding to the confusion.
Anyway... from what I read, I didn't think the o.p. needed a statusbar, in fact it sounded to me like he 'hid' it. "Right clicked on the bottom bar where the XN icon appeared and unchecked the option to show it." (You can right click the Add-on Bar in Firefox and UNcheck it (hide it)).  Then there was the part about having to remove something... not in my experience.

My take on 'statusbar' vs Add-on Bar ...is that X-Notifier still refers to its icon as the 'statusbar icon', so... I did ... at the same time, trying to indicate that Add-on Bar = statusbar.   And hiding the Add-on Bar, to me, is a 'Firefox thing', not an 'X-Notifier FAQ thing' ;)... (but, not my FAQ). ;)

Cosmetic changes are a pain sometimes. LoL, as with X icons ;).

Then again... it's sometimes better to be brief, even in FAQ's ...and let users ask for clarification.

I have not yet posted a FAQ, although I also have that permission... it's not necessary really to credit me, unless I add something significant, and then perhaps not even then.  I just note little spellings, and suggest things which original poster can choose to use/include or not... no confirmation necessary, just a reply 'received' perhaps ;). (No need to have "RpD" all over ;)ha.
I may attempt to provide FAQ's in the future, but I'm very busy with personal chores, finishing home to sell, and moving my residence this summer... and visiting the forum here is a kind of 'break' I've allowed myself, between chores. Actually I may have to devote more time to chores, less time 'online'. (Perhaps... if anyone else wanted to write a FAQ, they could do so and pass it on to CFB or me to edit/post ;).

As you see one line
Right click tab tiltle -> X-notifier -> Bookmark this page
(Tobwithu did not update it, for example.)

I was confuse and did not notice comment, when update to 3.3.2
that Tobwithu did moved When update and it only shown ONCE, "Thank you for update".
moved bookmark menu from tab menu to context menu

Myself I do NOT understand, what Tobwithu try to explain to me.

As you see my post
http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/comment/495#comment-495

and you see Tobwithu post below it said
Bookmark menu was moved to context menu (right click in browser window) in 3.3.2.

So, I did "re-word" and create in FAQ
http://xnotifier.tobwithu.com/dp/node/247
FROM
Right click tab tiltle -> X-notifier -> Bookmark this page
TO
Right click browser window -> X-notifier -> Bookmark this page

Bottomline, I do not want XN user to type "search" to find,
what they want, if not find, and they will post and ask repeat question.
I want people go to FAQ and to get right answer.

I did donation money to Tobwithu repeats for 3-4 years, I want to change donation to write FAQ.
So that way I want X-notifier keep alive! I want people LOVE X-notifier, with good FAQ,
and they will donation.

Once I start FAQ and it create 12 FAQ in total.
I will keep eye on people's post, if I see it need to create FAQ.
I will copy and paste with explain.

Thanks for reading and understanding, CFBancroft
